2011 is flying by, and somehow week ten of the 52 Weeks, 52 letters Challenge has come and gone. Luckily, I knew exactly to whom I wanted to write this week’s letter, and that was none other than Kristen of The Frugal Girl. And this is due to Kristen being the originator of Food Waste Friday and my week was rather focused on the issues related to yup, you guessed it — food waste.

It was a natural fit.

Also, Kristen actually took the time to write me a return letter, which I carried around in my purse for a week or so rereading it during the dull moments that pepper my life.

So Kristen, keep an eye on your mailbox, because another Katy Wolk-Stanley letter is on its way. I just hope you can read my sloppy handwriting.

Are you participating in the letter writing challenge? It’s never too late to start, and I highly recommend joining. It’s 44ยข per week, and worth every penny.

I have sent at least 10, but in batches. I ran into some parent’s at my daughter’s old school and we happy to have received pictures of their children that I had printed off and sent their families.
I have yet to write a heart felt letter..it will come. I also got in touch with my penpal when I was a child through facebook, so I plan on sending her some mail for fun too.

Katy…your letter writing and my sister’s new past time of card making have inspired me. I now have made 3 cards (all from recycled materials) waiting for me to write a personal note on each one. I will begin today, sending a handwritten card and photo to my 95 year old aunt.

I have loved every letter I’ve written and sent. A couple I’ve been surprised that there wasn’t a mention at all. Many have reciprocated and I’ve enjoyed their letters as well.
I was late in getting week 10 out, so I think I’ll work on two letters this week.

Would spurgle further to send me a letter, Katy? I promise a reply or is the UK out of the budget for this challenge?

This week I write a letter to my cousin Dieter in Berlin, whom I first met back in 1989 shortly before the Wall came down. He had lived in East Berlin most of his life and was visiting his uncle (my grandfather) near Stuttgart for his uncle’s 80th birthday. Because Dieter and his family still lived in communist East Germany, his wife and daughter were not allowed to attend his uncle’s 80th birthday celebration, thus, ensuring Dieter’s return. Dieter is one of the funniest, warmest people I’ve ever met, and he has visited us in the U.S. a couple of times (with his wife) since Germany’s reunification.

I’ve written mostly regular ‘how are you?’ catch-up letters to friends… but I’m starting to send fun letters to people I see all the time – with puzzles, crossword, etc.

we have our TV and its peripherals plugged into a power strip too. I would not have thought turning off everything at the power strip would fry the tv…thought it would be just like pulling the plug on it. yikes! I’ll have to be cautious, or the same darned thing could happen here!
