Doing More With Less

Frugality is not about having more for less. Frugality is about doing more with less.

I dont know…I guess. I seem to do the same whether I have a whole lotta stuff or hardly any. I juat like having almost nothing…personally. I have noticed that im really startin to tire of thrift stores and haunting them to find something I need. And regular stores are no better…they may have a product you need as in clothing or shoes but finding your size is almost impossible. In rethinking everything I go back to my favorite example….men. Most men will only be bothered to buy something when they risk losing their job or their dignaty because their clothes have become so shabby. They will shop once and make it last three years or more before they do it again. Ive coppied their 3 button down shirts couple of ts and three pairs of pants to carry you through every event of life and it works. Now I think I will just order every thing I need online once every three or so years. Being a woman I will probally time those purchases to when everything is on sale along with free shipping. Im really starting to like the idea of only having to shop once every three years and when the fridge and cabinets are totally bare of food. I think I will get a lot more done with all that free time…I might even learn to like football and beer….naw…thats never gonna happen …lol.

I also have a hard time finding clothes that fit. I never buy clothing online because I can’t try them on. I don’t want to pay to ship them back when they doesn’t fit.
Some men are bigger clothes horses than women. I just helped a male friend of mine move to a new appartment. He threw away ( or took to goodwill) more clothes than I own, and still had plenty to wear.
My needs are simple and few.

Being frugal means that you can also be “fruitful”…you spend less so you have more of you and your resources and time to put toward things you value…like people and community….and less crap in the landfills!

Couldn’t have said it better. I have so much more free time to do what I want now I never want to go back to having to spend my time cleaning and doing maintenance.

I agree, but I think I would also add something about getting better value on the stuff one does buy…

I do agree that frugality is largely about DOING more with less, because I think there is value in focusing on experiences and relationship rather than stuff.

But we all have to have some stuff, and I do feel like part of frugality has to do with quality. I think part of frugality is using ones funds WISELY, and part of that (for me, anyway) is seeking out better-made stuff second hand – even if I have to mend or refinish it – than I could get for the same money brand new. A lot of new stuff (especially cheaper stuff) is poorly made compared to what you can get for pennies on the dollar at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, Craigslist, Ebay, garbage piles.

The same applies to doing some things homemade and getting better quality for your money than you would buying a finished product.

Just my 2 cents!

That’s a good one to ponder. I am still in the honeymoon stage of thrift store shopping so I know I go overboard….it’s hard for me to pass up the deals I find. Funny thing is, I’ve never had such nice clothes for me and the rest of my family.
