Happy Thanksgiving, or as I like to Call it — “Pie Day”

by Katy on November 24, 2011 · 14 comments

Today, like every day I am thankful for  many things. For the health which I take for granted, my family, the ability to earn a living, a roof over my head, sale ingredients for pie and my own ability to turn those ingredients into wedges of perfection. (I stocked up on 5-pound bags of Bob’s Red Mill flour for $2 and one-pound packages of butter for $1.25 this week!)

May your day be filed with good food and delicious company. And pie. Never forget the pie.

What kinds of pie did you make? Pumpkin and chocolate cream pie over here.

Two pumpkin pies, one apple pie and a marbled pumpkin cheesecake.

And there’s only ten of us!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Katy, and thank you for your blog.

Btw, I bought a bag of whole wheat flour at the grocery store and it costed $5. I’m still bummed about that purchase. I didn’t know that I overpaid, but I’m pretty sure I did.

I had the best toll house pie I have ever had today. Delish. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

A small town near me has Pie Day every year – but not in November. Check it out at http://www.pieday.com/

Butter for 1.25/lb. How? Where? The best I’ve seen is 2.16 at Costco. For a price like that, I’d even brave Black Friday traffic.

Hey diane, at our Fred meyer, they had the challenge butter on sale $2, plus you combine it with the $.75 off coupon that was on a lot of the boxes, and you get your cheap butter.

Hi Katy,
My brother in law had a piece of pumkin pie, a piece of fourless choc cake, 2 scoops of ice cream, and all covered with whip cream, and no trouble finishing it. I was impressed.

Thanks again for feeding our kitties!

Chris

Katy: Just wanted to be sure that you knew that the flour in the WinCo bulk section (and most of the other ingredients in their bulk section) were Bob’s Red Mill. 🙂 This way, you won’t have to wait for another sale.

Happy Day After Turkey Day!

Pie making has brought my husband’s siblings (& spouses) closer together…we meet at our house on “Thanksgiving eve” and make more pies than anyone can ever eat (we made 9 this year…one for each one of us plus a spare!) and have IN N Out burgers and good red wine. We laugh and tell stories of their mom, who would always say (without fail…over and over and over again): “Oh! Looks like I made too much…well, I’d rather have too much than not enough!” Good times. Happy Thanksgiving, all.

We had 2 pumpkin pies and a chocolate creme pie. Delicious! My brother bought them from a personal friend who has a small part-time baking business. Yummy!

And I’ll admit, after making turkey, gravy, stuffing, veggies, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, salad, and appetizers, it was really nice to have homemade-tasting pie without the work!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
