It's "The Story of Stuff" Day!

Today is the day after Thanksgiving, which means it’s black Friday, The Story of Stuff day!

Never heard of this holiday? Well . . . that’s because I just made it up. The Story of Stuff is a wonderful and engaging 20 minute video produced by Annie Leonard that succinctly explains  the flow of stuff through manufacturing to landfill. This video has been viewed over seven million times and is a great substitution for rising at 3:00 A.M. for doorbuster deals.

Enjoy it and pass it along!

What a brilliant idea to post this today!

The Story of Stuff and your blog have been the biggest influences on my non-consumer journey. Thanks so much!

Since most of our consumer goods are now made in countries with no real pollution rules, slave wages, etc. etc., makes even more sense not to be a consumer. I love the message in the Story of Stuff!!
My goal is to only buy used stuff and only if I really need it.

Katy – thank you for posting this there is so much information here that I as someone who cares about these things didn’t know. I was flabbergasted to see that only 1% of items bought stay in our homes longer than 6 months. I tried to think of everything we own and I think we are an exception but then I think of all the packaging for food and realize that it’s a pretty good statistic.
