Link-O-Rama-Mama — Food Stamps, Captain Picard & Cheapo Interiors

Patrick Stewart Hug

It’s time for another Link-O-Rama Mama, where I lazily link to other people’s well written and thoroughly researched articles.

From The Mouths of Babes

A NY Times Op Ed piece about the current wave of protest against the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, (A.K.A. “food stamps.”) The article is wonderfully opinionated and persuasive!

Sir Patrick Stewart is a God

Fantastic blog piece about how and why Patrick Stewart, (better known as Captain Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation) advocates against domestic violence and military PTSD. Also, he’s apparently a really good hugger.

Sigh . . .

Awesome Cheap and Gorgeous Interiors

A great photo essay from Country Living magazine iluustrating and explaining how a North Carolina couple redid and furnished their home for next to nothing.

For realz.

Sir Patrick Stewart’s piece made me cry and the piece on the reduction and the elimination of the Food Stamp program made me cry for another reason. When will we learn from the past? Why must those who have profited from government subsidies feel the need to take it away from the most deserving and least able to stand up for themselves?

Why couldn’t the couple afford to remodel their house but they can afford a yacht. I wish I had that dilemma, remodel or get a yacht. I do love that house though.

Their aesthetic is one I am seeing more and more…especially at restoration Hardware…very industrial and no color. And they have a yacht!

Sir Patrick rules. I’ve had a crush on him ever since ST-TNG, and I’m delighted to learn that he’s a thoroughly good chap as well.

Re: the idiots who want to cut food stamps, don’t get me started.

And, BTW, Katy, last week’s offer of the Marimekko bag for another craft project is still good. Email me and it’s yours.

The piece on cutting Snap just made my blood pressure boil. No child should EVER have to live without food in the house. I started writing my blog so that people on snap could have the tools to make it through the month and have some food left over. I was made aware that some were running out of food before they ran out of month. Now, they want to cut the program? Kids can’t do their best on a empty stomach. If they want our kids to compete in a global economy, they at least need to have proper nutrition.
