Non-Consumer Mish-Mash — Kanye West, Star Trek Dogs & Lisa Simpson

It’s time again Non-Consumer Mish-Mash, where I write a little bit about this and a little bit about that.

Mackelmore vs. Kanye West

Kanye West:

Kanye West T-shirt

“Mackelmore and Ryan” lyrics from Thrift Shop:

“I hit the party and they stop in that motherfudger.
They be like, “Oh, that Gucci – that’s hella tight.”
I’m like, “Yo – that’s fifty dollars for a T-shirt.”
Limited edition, let’s do some simple addition,
Fifty dollars for a T-shirt – that’s just some ignorant bidtz (shucks.)
I call that getting swindled and pimped (shucks)
I call that getting tricked by a business.
That shirt’s hella dough,
And having the same one as six other people in this club is a hella don’t.
Peep game, come take a look through my telescope,
Tryna get girls from a brand? Man you hella won’t
Man you hella won’t.”

Guess which one I prefer.

Star Trek Saves The Day!

I decided to pair two vintage doggies on my curbside console table, but I quickly realized that the smaller dog was sitting too low and needed a boost. And in the spirit of  make it do make it so, I grabbed a couple of books from a nearby shelf to save the day.

Wait, who saved the day?

Star Trek, that’s who!

Don’t forget that everything I needed to learn in life, I learned from Star Trek.

Lisa Simpson Figures it All Out:

Have a great summer day, we’re chillin’ out here in sunny Portland, Oregon and planning on hitting up the neighborhood Indian food buffet for a late lunch. Because teenage boys + late lunch + all you can eat = won’t have to feed them dinner.

Winner, winner, Indian dinner! 😀

Best. Post. Ever! Serious pop culture mash-up goin’ on up in this piece!

Huge fans of Star Trek over here. Watched every episode of every series from TNG on. Love catching them in reruns now and again.

They’re also ALL available on Netflix, which is great since it skips over the commercials!

You can likely check them out from your local library as well.

I’m slowly working my way through Star Trek: The Original Series (STTOS) on Netflix… just for fun. I’ve seen most of them already, but every once in a while I come across one I hadn’t seen. It’s great for late nights when I just want to be distracted a bit. 🙂

The Kanye West t-shirt makes my skin crawl. And I don’t own or wear one. Prediction: Some BOMC suburban private school kid in greater LA (where I live) will wear it UNDER his forest green polo shirt to school next week and EVERYONE else will nag Mom to get one. Been there.

Ann, did you mean the Urban Dictionary definition of BOMC rather than “Book of the Month Club”? 😉

I love those doggies!

Do you use those bowls (with the change in them) for your rings at night, too? I’m trying to find a nicer solution for that right now, rather than just throwing my ring on the bedside table each night.

I’ve been a fan of Star Trek in all of its forms for years, and I’m currently rewatching the entire run of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It wasn’t until recently I found out that the vast majority of episodes of ALL of the Star Trek series are available for FREE over at startrek.com.
Not quite ready to spend the money for cable, satellite or Netflix, so this is something I’m really enjoying.

Canadian Netflix does NOT have all the star trek series, only TNG, so this is fantastic to learn, thanks!… I hope it doesn’t say “not authorised for your region” once I get there.

I think you should give Kanye a “Boo Hiss” award…Don’t get me wrong, I’ll spend more money for, say, a pair of timeless black Prada heels that will last forever (I’ll buy them at a consignment shop for $35 of course!), but selling your name in the form of a plain white T-shirt that’s going to fall apart in a few years is just plain unconscionable. This is a prime example of greedy capitalism and blind consumerism. Now, excuse me, I have some “magic beans” to go sell on eBay…only $99.99 if anyone’s interested… 😉

I would be curious to see the demographics of the people that bought the white T-Shirt. I am not a Kanye fan. Can’t understand a thing he says into the microphone so I chose not to listen.

Like. I don’t think anything he says is worth listening to. He is too arrogant and too offensive, regardless of any amount of “talent” he may possess.

I’m not exactly a fan of this celebrity, but the shirt is made out of Egyptian cotton. Would I buy it? Hell to the no, but it’s not exactly the same as the plain cotton tees you find 3 to a bag and a price increase is reasonable for a higher quality product. Not worth $120, but a more higher end price for sure.
