Non-Consumer Photo Essay — Princess Diana and The Loving Sewer Rat Mama

by Katy on June 2, 2014 · 22 comments

It’s time for another one of my Non-Consumer Photo Essays, where you get a glimpse into the death defying exciting acceptable visuals from my world.

Remember my $6.99 5-pound bag of bleu cheese crumbles from The Grocery Outlet? Well I finally divvied it into canning jars for the freezer. I can now pull out normal size amounts to put on salads for the foreseeable future. And that green topped jar? The lid is from a container of parmesan cheese and fits perfectly on standard size canning jars.

Bleu cheese

I recently came across, (but didn’t buy) this vintage Chuck and Di tea tin. The pained expressions on their faces are so supremely uncomfortable. Such a difference from the happy and confident Kate Middleton.

Chuck and Di

My sons are both very talented artists, but it’s my older son’s art that cracks me up. This card is what he came up with when I told him that his grandmother was coming over and he needed to make her a Mother’s Day card.

Aww . . . such a loving sewer rat mama.

Happy Mother's day!

My parents has always snapped up vintage samplers and embroidery pieces. This one has been hanging in my family home since I don’t know when. I love the sentiment to “Cook Without a Book.”

Remember the kiwi vines I planted back in April? (As in stuck some sticks into a flower pot?)

Kiwi vines

Three out of four of them survived, and are growing like crazy now. I don’t think I’ll be eating much fruit this year, but I am looking forward to lots of delicious and healthy kiwis starting next year!

Hahaha, that Mother’s Day card cracks me up. I will now be on the lookout for giant bags of bleu cheese – we love it in our house but it’s so expensive!

I was very envious that this particular card was not for me!

That card is hilarious. Very well drawn though. I’m impressed!

He is a wonderfully twisted guy.

Awww…what happened to Baby Sewer Rat #4’s tail??? Was it some sort of horrible accident, or was it born tail-less?

I do the same thing with feta cheese. The costco size is pretty big so I cut it into 4 pieces freezing the other 3. Thaw then crumble..yummm.

The parmesan cheese container lid thing is brilliant! I need to save mine one of these days to put on one of mine – that can come in handy for SO many things since canning jars are just about my sole food storage.

The kiwis look very happy, but you have them next to the house. GET THEM AWAY FROM THE HOUSE or you may come home one day and not be able to find it again. A happy kiwi can be an overwhelming kiwi.

I do have them next to a garbage picked trellis, and since they’re in a pot, I can always tinker with location.

On the Kiwis… I hope you have both male and female plants. Because you won’t get any fruit from the males, and if they are all females, well, they need a male to pollinate them.

Happy Gardening!

I have the ménage a troi of kiwi plants. Two females and one male.

I am amazed/impressed that you know that you have two females and one male.

The bark on the male is rough, and it’s smooth on the female. Easy to remember. 🙂

On my blog, somewhere, I have a post about the Kraft Parmesan shaker containers. I use the plastic container to store things I can shake out instead of dump–baking soda, Diatomaceous Earth, etc. I am the crazy lady who “hoards” these. When I buy the DE, the cloud it makes chokes me to use it. So, a friend puts DE in these shakers for me. That way, I can sprinkle DE on the chicken poop left on my porch and that draws flies and stinks! Under the bathroom and kitchen sinks and in the laundry room, I have shakers of Baking Soda that never go to the kitchen for baking. I use baking soda for cleaning.

Take pity on poor Diana. She was 19 for crying out loud (Charles was 32 and already cheating) and Kate was 30 and college educated. Back in 1980 it was all about the provably virgin girl of good breeding who dutifully produced an heir and a spare. Kate and Wm reaped the benefit of that disastrous experience.

A few months back you talked about a book I wrote for my daughters, Hatch (The Dragons of Laton) and I thought I’d give you an update. Hatch climbed all the way to #1 best seller in two catagories of Amazon’s best selling fantasy novels, and it is now in the hands of a producer who is turning it into an Audiobook!
God is great!

That is amazing, great job! It sounds like a labor of love. And I look forward to listening to the audiobook!

I have so many questions about this. Does the cheese stick together. I would guess you have to defrost an entire jar to use it. Do you use it that fast? I am asking for more details but I get this feeling you may be head slapping yourself (or wishing you could me) about stating the obvious. But a little more detail about this. I looked for a Grocery Outlet in my area and apparently they are a Northwest outfit at this point, by in large. But in case I get a deal on something like this, I would like more details. TIA

I don’t have your answers, but at such a low cost I was willing to take a gamble with how well it would do frozen. Even if it does stick together after being frozen, (it doesn’t stick together now) I have no problem with recrumbling it with my fingers later on.

Still laughing over the momma rat! I’d trade a European soccer jersey for a momma opossum!
