The Rule of Halves

How would you like to get 50% off many of your household goods? It’s easy and it’s called “The Rule of Halves.”

By using half the amount of a product that you normally would, you are not only getting a terrific half-off deal, but you are essentially decreasing by 50% the amount of packaging. It’s only having to be manufactured half as much, you will run out of it half as often, and this method cuts in half the errand of buying it. You get the idea, it’s those darned ripple effects.

This mindset works for all kinds of products that you use on a daily basis.

For example:

  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Toothpaste
  • Laundry & dishwasher detergent
  • Liquid hand soap – Just twist a rubber band around the neck of the pump thus decreasing the amount squooshed out with push.
  • My sister Jessica even cuts her kitchen sponges in half, as she feels you’re never using the whole sponge at once anyway. (No silly, she cuts them in half width-wise!)

There are so many more products that lend themselves to the “Rule of Halves.” I’d welcome your half-baked ideas in the comments section.

Mouthwash. It really takes less than a tablespoon to do the job. If you must use it at all.
