Today I Am . . .

Today I am . . .

  • Super sleepy from staying up too late watching the second season of Downton Abbey. Cable is offering a bunch of different paid programming for free this week. Included? Downton Abbey!
  • Speaking in a dreadful British accent and talking about how I have to go “to hospital” tomorrow. I am unable (and unwilling) to stop myself.
  • Admiring my freshly shampooed couch, which is suddenly and miraculously less dingy. Buying a rug shampooer through Craigslist last year was an excellent purchase.
  • Feeling bad about how spring break is more than halfway over, yet we’ve done nothing interesting or special. Perhaps we’ll go to the beach this weekend.
  • Digesting Easter candy, Must go buy more. I cannot be trusted.
  • Lending my rug shampooer to my step-mother who brought home a free couch that needs a bit of spiffing up.
  • Drooling over the Jonathan Adler Happy Chic collection at JCPenny and wondering how soon until it starts to hit Goodwill.
  • Proud of my employed sons. My older son recertified his lifeguard training over the weekend in order to work this summer, and today my younger son will work his second shift of the week at the art supply store.
  • Making The Frugal Girl’s yogurt from a buy-it-now-it’s-soon-to-expire gallon of organic milk.
  • Wishing I had a full complement of household staff to cook my meals, clean my house and attend to the estate. Perhaps Downton Abbey has set up an unrealistic expectation for me.

Now you. What are you doing today?

I’ve been fielding calls all day regarding buying a new house/selling our old one. I’ve hit the wall, as well as the box of Nilla Wafers. My luck today was a call informing me that I’d won 3rd place in a drawing and will receive one free room of carpet cleaning! New house master bedroom, here they come! In the mail today was a check for $30 that had been owed to me from a company that I knew nothing about until I clicked on the “We may have money that somebody owes you” website for my state. People, go check out those websites! It was $30 for all of about 10 minutes of my time. Yay for found money! Ooo, I also found 4 cents in the street last night. 🙂

You know I love free money! I have tried those sites before, but there’s never anything for me. 🙁

I made bread, devilled eggs and a big salad for the week.
Two loads of laundry and hung most to dry on this windy spring day.
Cleaned out freezer and re-did my inventory of freezer and fridge.
Made a list of meals to make with what I HAVE not what I need.
Was going to hit a big sale at an expensive store but decided to make saurkraut instead!
Discovered how awesome microfiber cloths are for cleaning. Who knew? They can scrub anything!
Vacuumed and dusted too.
A good productive day off.

“Was going to hit a big sale at an expensive store but decided to make saurkraut instead?”

The funniest sentence ever written!

Downton Abbey will make you affect an awful British accent 🙂 I do love that series! My mom was a nurse in WW 2 Britain. GM was in the first world war (Sybil!!) and my husband is a pediatrician and I his unpaid office manager. I understand off “to hospital” only too well LOL. Enjoy the candy– life is short! Hannah

Actually, I think my English accent is pretty good. I lived in London for three years throughout my childhood, and came back from my 6th grade year in England will a full-on accent which everyone thought was fake. It wasn’t.

I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who eats the candy purchased for Easter! (And Halloween, and V.D. and Christmas!!) I cannot be trusted when it comes to candy in the house. Or cake. Or donuts. Cookies are about the only sweet I don’t like.

I’m up to my usual stuff (hanging a load of laundry and making soup, some of which will be shared with neighbors who will be coming in tonight after a family funeral in Florida and won’t feel like cooking).

And never mind the Downton Abbey fantasies. (I tell my second sister–who has illusions of being Lady Mary–that both of us would have been scullery maids, given our ancestry.) Concentrate on the joys of having two teenage sons who aren’t afraid of work. You don’t need me to tell you this, but you raised ’em right; revel in it!

Gah…that Jonathan Adler stuff is sooooo cute! Love the designs on the INSIDE of the shower curtains, especially this yellow one:

You spend more time on the inside of the shower than the outside…why not have something colorful to look at while you’re washing up!

Katy,

I thought Downton Abbey was on PBS….isn’t that free where you live?

It is here, and so are the episodes online….

I love the way we and the British use articles (is that what you call the word ‘the’?) differently. They go to hospital, go on holiday, but get ‘the’ breakfast, whereas we go to ‘the’ hospital, take ‘a’ holiday, and get breakfast. Who’s definitely been watching too many British shows! If that’s possible. Oh, yeah, and I haven’t done anything interesting.

Today I am: Playing hookey, sorta. My car has bad brakes and husband couldn’t finish them last night. Since his wage is way more than mine, I generously offered to stay home. Hee hee.
So I planted a shrub that needed a home, made chicken spinach enchildas for dinner tonite, and am reading a new Maeve Binchy book.
Tough life, but someones got to do it.

Ooh . . . I put the new Maeve Binchy book on hold at the library. Saddened that it will be the last new one I’ll ever read.

As a nurse, you should watch another English PBS series — Call the Midwife. It’s on Netflex. But our local PBS station will start re-broadcasting season 1 starting Sunday night. Takes place in East London in the late 1950’s and as you guessed it, it’s about Midwives and their patients and life in general. Excellent show.

I actually just watched the series this week. I held off from watching it, as childbirth is usually painfully wrong on TV and movies, but I think they actually did a very realistic job of depicting birth.

Great show, and I’ve set my DVR to start recording the new episodes which start this Sunday!

We’re doing kind of a stay-cation this Easter break. Today we went and watched The Croods in matinee, then we stopped at a park, then went to a consignment store and bought a sewing machine for $50. I need to try it out and make sure it works before the 5 day return policy runs out.

Did I make any sense. ? It’s been a Lon g day, they a re earring the building down at work.

Today I started listing items from my mother-in-law’s condo (she has gone into an assisted living facility) on ebay. So far I have about 18 items listed and what doesn’t sell will be donated. That is my weekend plan so I can get back into our dining room as it is full of stuff!! She called and thanked me for cleaning out her condo, (didn’t tell her I was selling most of it), don’t want to upset her.

I am pleased that I found my bicycle a new home. Was requested on my city’s Freecycle site; so old I did not think it would sell at the recycling places. Still has lots of life, just can’t use it myself anymore.

I watched Downton Abbey last year on our local PBS station. This year Comcast decided that I shouldn’t have access to PBS anymore and I ended up watching it on the PBS website. You should check out “Call the Midwife” if you like Downton. I saw the first season last year and can’t wait for the 2nd season to start March 31. Also available on the PBS website.

Love this! You really get a lot done in a day. Today I taught a vinyasa yoga class at 6:30 a.m., copy-edited some articles for a client, took a nap, posted fliers around town for an upcoming yoga series I’m teaching for curvy and bigger-bodied students, checked in on hubby a few times who is down with a nasty cold but insists he doesn’t need anything except sleep, and made a double batch of lentil dal. Might catch a yoga class later.

Plotting Easter morning for my 7 and 9 yr olds…. I bought this year’s basket goodies at Goodwill last year for 75% off the day after Easter. I also got two $2 bills and quarters for their baskets/eggs (always the same ones every year of course) in an effort to limit the endless candy and knicknacks! Eating from the stash of extra candy. Baked mini chocolate chips muffins to replicate store bought ones that are more expensive and not as tasty! Also, plan to read Maeve Binchy library book Nights of Rain and Stars … I am also so sad that she passed away last summer! I am trying to go back and read ones that I have missed through the years!

Kitty was crying about his litter box but we were out of litter and nobody had the time to go to the store. I emptied the litter box and scrubbed it down, tore up toilet paper and strew it around in the box….he hopped in, did his business, had a wash and is now purring happily in the window.

Who knew? >^..^<
