Today I Am . . .

Today I am . . .

Meeting up for breakfast with my friend Julia Park Tracey, who is in town for all things Doris Diaries.

Almost eating breakfast around three times so far, and then remembering that I’m eating breakfast out.

Feeling guilty about how I cleaned my older son’s room, as I know I am babying him. However, his room was messy beyond his cleaning abilities, and it was hindering his ability to find school related stuff and do homework. Plus, it was a tripping hazard. My heart goes out to whoever gets assigned as his college roommate.

Going to clean one of my mother’s guest cottages. Crossing my fingers that the tenants left behind some yummy food.

Planning to make pressure cooked black bean chili for dinner. I always save the tiny tortilla chip crumbs to sprinkle on top of chili, which is both delicious and is part of my food waste avoidance campaign.

Sad to be using my electric dryer, as rainy season is here to stay. I do hang the lighter weight items on clothes racks, but thicker items get dried.

Now you. What are you doing today?

Drug out the beastly carpet cleaner to clean carpets, rather than calling someone. Took me about an hour and now the house smells clean!
Windows open to air out the house. The a/c has been off for over a week now that it is cooling down in Iowa.
Made a fancy coffee instead of going to Starbucks to use my gift card.
Getting the rest of my stuff together to take to consignment. Had to wait for them to accept some of my things. (And my son is at school and won’t know they are gone!)

I need to steam clean my carpets and bathe both my (big) dogs soon. I do love the clean smell in my house after I do these chores.

Trying to find someone to fix a leak in our roof, which will involve crawling through the length of the house and through insulation. Bleck.
Also, working on decorations for our Race for the Cure tent, as long as I’m home anyway.

1. I just arrived home after Bible study. We have a wonderful group and it always makes the day go better.
2. I need to move my garden as it is too close to walnut trees. I have decided on a good spot, and when the rain stops I will go out to till it up. My old garden spot I will sow in grass seed.
3. I need to pick apples and begin to make applesauce. I found a recipe where you put in a touch of nutmeg with the the usual ingredients for a different taste.
4. Vaccuuming, dusting, etc. You know, the ordinary stuff.

That’s about it. I do take pleasure in doing ordinary, simple tasks.

He’s your firstborn, and will soon be flying away from the nest… maybe just enjoy these last few opportunities to clean his room… 🙂 Sorry- I’m a relatively new mama and I get misty just thinking about my baby growing up!

1. Smelling a burning smell from my space heater under my desk. Terrified that I’m either going to burn to a crisp or freeze to death (why the AC is up full-blast when it’s 60-degrees outside is beyond me…they cater to the folks who wear suits at work).
2. Getting a game plan for this week. I’m moving on Saturday 1,000 miles to Wyoming (one of the lucky few who can say she lives there) and am realizing I own *alot* of stuff. But I’m torn between “do I get rid of it?” and “do I keep it because it’s already bought, I might need it, and I hate to waste”?
3. Mentally prepping my mind for a long night at the laundromat tonight. But at least it’ll all get done at once…and CLEAN SHEETS!
4. Giving away the moving boxes we won’t be using on Craigslist. I’m amazed at the number of ads out there that are charging for boxes. As if moving wasn’t expensive enough… so I’m very happy to help lower someone’s costs since I got them (used) from someone on Craigslist for free as well! I consider it paying it forward 😉

I spent some time in Wyoming several years ago and loved it. Beautiful place. Good luck with your move and safe travels.

1. Just returned home from a quarterly trip to Trader Joe’s (it’s an hour away) and am getting ready to cut and pre-cook anything that needs it for future meals and snacks.
2. Gathering items to take to consignment tomorrow as they are now accepting winter/holiday items.
3. Waiting on my college daughter to arrive home for the evening – her school is only 30 min away – she is coming home to pick up clothes for a costume party.
4.Ordering my free museum passes for this weekend that Katy posted about on Facebook. Thanks!

1. Fighting a battle with my sinus infection. Come on z-pack and prednisone!
2. Shipped 4 books that I sold on Amazon.
3. Did some price adjustments on a few of my listings to get those items sold.
4. Found 2 items in a bag of craft stuff, that a friend gave me that she was getting rid of, that I didn’t need but could list on Amazon for $20 each!
5. Sorting through books to take to the used book store tomorrow and then going to Value Village for the 50% off clothes sale.

We had nachos at school today (I’m a lunch lady). I dump the crumbs from the tortilla bags into a container to use tomorrow. We will make up taco salads and put the container of crumbs out for the kids to top them with.

I’m trying to avoid buying anything for supper by finally cracking open a can of chow mein that’s been hidden in the pantry… The can’s not bulging, so I figure it’s safe enough.

Today I am
– rockin’ a pair of hand me down jeans (from my husband’s co-worker’s daughter) and a free t-shirt I got after donating blood to the red cross.
– happy my girls worked hard and finished their homeschool work early.
– hanging laundry on my clothesline.
– sitting outside peeling potatoes for supper.
– enjoying listening to a chapter of the audio Winnie the Pooh with my daughters at supper.
– happy they will eat whatever I fix without complaining. Tonight it was black beans, mashed potatoes, spinach and yogurt.
– glad the weather is cooling off and next months power bill should be lower.
– thinking about making an apple pie later tonight after the girls so to bed.
– looking forward to when my husband gets off work tonight at 10.
– getting ready to post free items on craigslist. I decluttered my bedroom yesterday and found so many things to get rid of. Shoes, wrapping paper, magazines ect.

Today I am
Straightening out the health insurance that is going to be cancelled of I don’t tell the why my address is 1’digit off from my husbands. His address was listed with a south in the address, mine was not. Shaking my head. Straightening out the medical bills because they were coded wrong so Medicare won’t pay them. And finding out that the patio set that blew up ( pardon the pun) in this weekends storm, isn’t covered because we have five hundred dollar deductible, I would really like to non consume insurance, a necessary evil.

Today I am…
Timewasting on Youtube. Oh yes I’m not immune. There’s a rock revival going on here at Chez Wright.
I’m working my way through my clutter collection – sorry CD collection… a day at a time. Rediscovered some classics including Puddle Of Mudd. So researching videos etc!
Shocking.

Today I am also…running. But not till late afternoon, so plenty of opportunity for more timewasting.

Using my neighborhood library as my office to get things done online.I can never concentrate at home, so having a dedicated space and time to complete my tasks is a very good thing.

Yesterday I
1. Biked my son to and from school.
2. Biked to Half-Price Books (nothing) and Goodwill (4 shirts to round out my capsule wardrobe).
3. Fixed leftovers/tortilla pizzas for dinner.
4. Watched “Perks of Being a Wallflower” from Redbox for free. (Thanks, Katy!)
5. Missed my daughter like crazy since we dropped her off for her freshman year at college on Sunday.

We really liked “Perks,” and my son immediately got a copy of the book and read it cover to cover. He’s not a reader, so this was a big deal.

about that electric dryer: we have an outdoor line, but like katy, we are now past the dry days of summer. and we have an hoa that does not allow such things to be visible, plus it is a small townhouse yard. the up side is that the townhouse is 3 stories tall. that 3rd floor gets really warm, so we have 2 lines there. my good luck the wash/dry is on that floor. coupled with 2 clothes racks, the dryer sees use only as a 10 minute de-wrinkler before hanging a few delicate things or to partially dry big towels so they won’t weigh the lines down too much (lines are rated at 22 lbs).

Off-topic, but thank you for letting us know about that free code for Red Box a few days ago. The husband ran down and rented Now You See Us.
And, oh, right now I am procrastinating about a pile of paperwork.

Even tho we’re nearing the end of rainy season we’ve had over 5″ of rain the past 2 days and it just started sprinkling again. Since I can’t hang my laundry outside I put it on racks in the house, turn on the ceiling fan for about an hour and then by morning everything’s dry. Right now I have 2 very heavy pool towels drying – got left out in the rain.

Spent several hours yesterday preparing a budget and figuring out how to pay for everything and then presented to my hubby this morning. Amazingly we found we actually have enough money to pay for everything IF WE STICK TO THE BUDGET. This includes computing monthly costs of annual bills like house insurance, pool & AC maintenance, truck license plates, and routine medical/dental. We’re on SSN & a tiny pension so income is fixed. Hubby qualifies for VA medical and I use Medicare so those costs remain about the same year to year but will be increasing. Now to just get things ready to put on Craig’s list so we can start building a cushion for the necessary wants but not the need right now – like clothes.

Love your blog and all your readers with their great ideas and insights.

Not too exciting – cleaning up the kitchen while baking pumpkins for my pigs and sweet potatoes for us, all after a long day at work on my feet. And I am looking forward to sitting down to finish a library loaned movie as soon as I am done!
