Today I Am . . .

Today I am . . .

  • Happy to have some time off from work. (I worked 36 hours this week, which hit me like a Mack truck.)
  • Starting to get my thoughts organized for my son’s month in Japan. (He leaves in six days!)
  • Annoyed with how messy the house gets in my absence. (Am I the only one with the skill set to stay on top of laundry?)
  • Clean, fed and relatively relaxed. (It’s amazing how stress-free the mornings are with only one kid to get out the door for school.)
  • Looking forward to a nice restaurant meal to celebrate my older son’s high school graduation. (He went immediately to a school sponsored all night party, so there was no special dinner on graduation night.)
  • Saddened by the school shooting at Reynold’s High School. (Portland is a small enough community that I both know a teacher and a parent from the school.)
  • Fighting off some kind of cold or something, which is why the work week hit me so hard. (I sometimes envy those whose jobs are not so physical.)
  • Arranging for our former Japanese exchange student to move into our house tomorrow. (It will just be for a few weeks, and he’s a great guy so we’re all looking forward to it.)
  • Planning to buy either locally made omiyage gifts or edibles as Japanese host family gifts. (It’s nice to not reinvent the wheel, as I think I’ve bought for seven or eight Japanese host families through the years.)
  • Hearing a continuous loop of UB40’s Fools Rush In in my head. (It played during a surgery yesterday, and somehow stuck.)
  • Listening to Maeve Binchy’s Chestnut Street on my hand-me-down iPhone. (I love, love, love the option for digital download from The Multnomah County Library!)
  • Enjoying the drizzly weather. (My garden could use a good soak, so it’s more than welcome!)
  • Returning the borrowed cap and gown to my son’s school. (Thank you!)

Now your turn. What are you doing today?

Lots of nothing. It was also an intense week. Nothing at all today.

Eating chocolate chip cookies I made last night (with whole wheat pastry flour. Yum.) Planning a dinner that will be comfortable to make and eat in 86° weather. Searching the web for info related to our trip to Vermont in August… I can’t wait!

I love planning for trips, half the fun is in the anticipation.

If you end up near Southeastern VT, you can visit the King Arthur Flour factory. Call for hours, last time I tried to go their website hours were out of date. :-<

Thanks! We will be in the Northeast Kingdom, but we may do some exploring.

1. I had my big toe nail removed this am. Sure ruins the pedicure for summer sandals!
2. Went to the Goodwill and unloaded lots of stuff.
3. Am planning a small supper party. I will served chicken breasts (bought on sale of course) baked with a crust of mayo, parmesan, and Italian seasoning; sweet potatoes that have been sliced thin, brushed with olive oil and seasoned with Lawry’s; and fresh green beans.
Dessert, why strawberry shortcake of course!
4. I am watching the developments in Iraq with dismay. I want no more Americans killed, maimed, or shell-shocked.
5. Rearranged my apartment after I got rid of stuff.

I’m also enjoying the cool wet weather. It gives me a change to catch up on housework. I spend every warm waking minute outside in my garden, and since I’ve been cleaning houses for others for work, I’ve really let my house slide.
The cabbage is ready in the garden so I have a corned beef in the crockpot, hmm hmm, good

I remembered Wednesday that my library has digital download audio books available after owning my second-hand smartphone for over a year. Better late than never? I’m currently enjoying Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” on my commute to and from work. I also put a hold on several audio books and added several more to my wishlist. And I downloaded a 2nd book to listen to on the drive to and from my dad’s this weekend. I get tired of the hubby’s angry white boy music, so books on tape work great for us (and the rest of the family.)

I LOVED Bossypants, and did a lot of laughing really loudly, even though I was wearing headphones. Which I’m sure made me look insane.

I thought about you and your family a lot this week after hearing of the shooting. So glad that ya’ll are okay but sad that other families aren’t.
We’ve been on vacation this week so Monday starts the work grind for me . Oh well……

*Took my son to the library to return books and pick up his prize for the summer reading program. He picked out a book in a series he enjoys. We also picked up new books and a few videos.
*Making turkey for dinner in the electric roaster. Trying to clean out the freezer so, it’s Turkey day in June at our house.
*Gearing up to work the weekend. I work weekend package at the hospital and last weekend was my weekend off. So I’ve been off 10 days. But I arranged it to work 11-23 tomorrow, instead of 07-19.
*Enjoying 75* in Iowa. No heat, no a/c. Just some open windows and sunshine!
*Meeting up with someone to sell some unneeded fencing. Love those FB swap sites!

Preparing 4 people to take a trip to the Caribbean to celebrate my parents 50Th anniversary . Unlike somewhere in the US, I have to make sure I bring most of what we “might” need.
Finishing up all the end of school activities for both kids.
Agree about the laundry. Seriously!
Trying to get kids to put away all the unused school supplies so that we don’t have to buy them again AND so we will come home to a clean-ish house.

= Writing a research paper for my final class before I attain my masters degree. (Graduating at the end of July!)
= Annoyed at how messy my kitchen is. I’m hosting a party for my mother and grandmother celebrating their shared birthday, which happens to fall on Father’s Day this year, which is also my husband’s very first Father’s Day (our baby is three months old today). We’re having a big luau-themed party, and my kitchen is covered in mango-sticky from making mango salsa.
= Excited about volunteering at the Highland Games in our state tomorrow. I can’t wait to see our little daughter in her tiny clan tartan!

Enjoyed this post as much as your non-consumering ones! Amazed at how much details you can capture of your day! Had to chuckle at point 3 as I have two teenage sons 15 and 17 and one husband and it’s the same over here in Singapore. It’s fun how life is so much different yet the same the world over.

It’s rainy in Seattle too so I am on a baking binge this afternoon (muffins, peanut butter bars so far) and I’ll be making soup (cheap, healthy, delicious!) for dinner. I love rainy days, especially after a string a nicer ones at this time of year.

We have my mother-in-law in town for my husband’s graduation so we are going to a local farmer’s market today and then the zoo! I was able to borrow a discount card from someone which will give us $6 off each ticket.
Tomorrow we are headed to our annual brewer’s festival to support (and taste!) Washington breweries.

-I worked this morning.
-Came home to do some cleaning in the house.
-The weather in the Northeast is not great today, so my husband put on a load of white clothes. He knows that I really hate hanging out with socks and underwear, so when it rains, that’s what he washes.
-Deciding what to cook for dinner for just my husband and I because my daughters are both working tonight.
-On the way home from my show today, I stopped in at an estate sale. I bought 4 really nice baskets for $10. At $2.50 each for big square baskets, that is a great deal.
That’s about it today!

Worked in the yard. After a few weeks of rainy and quite warm weather it had gotten away from us. It looks much better now.

Safeway has a deal where if you buy a $50 gift card you receive a coupon for $10 off your next order of $25 or more. I have have done the deal three times in the past several days, as we can always use Lowe’s gift cards.

I am participating in a charity Hat Along – I am seeing how many hats I can crochet, using yarn from my stash, before the end of the month. I am working on my eleventh hat. As I crochet I am reading a legal thriller on my Kindle (it is easy to knit/crochet while using an e-reader – of course the book was a free download from Amazon). That is a genre I don’t usually read but I am enjoying the book.

My husband requested a cookout for Father’s Day. When it is cooler outside tonight we will walk to the store to buy whatever he wants to grill and a mustard he eyed the last time we were in the store. If we’re lucky we’ll find a few coins.

I printed some coupons from Coupons.com via Swagbucks. Because I print using a laser printer (black ink only) on scrap paper it is very inexpensive.
