Busy Days, Panicky Days

I am trying not to let myself feel overwhelmed by all the stuff that I need to do today, but it’s a losing battle. I am planning a huge garage sale that, weather depending, starts tomorrow. And although I do have almost everything sorted and priced, I’m still starting to get panicky about all the details.

I still need to:

  • Pick up big folding tables from my mother’s house
  • Make signs and post them
  • Put together Craigslist ads
  • Set everything on the tables in the garage
  • Have my older son go through his room
  • Bring leftover landscaping stones from the backyard to the front
  • Dig up and pot the extra day lilies that I want to sell

Not to mention all the regular daily tasks that fill my life such as take my older son to his first job interview, (wish him luck!) figure out dinner, help with the inevitable homework and yes, write a blog post.

It doesn’t sound that overwhelming, but for some reason it’s making me feel like screaming. I think I’ll go take a shower and call this blog post a done deal. At least that’s one thing I can cross off the ol’ to-do list.

Good luck to my nephew and and also…DELEGATE. I think that we moms don’t delegate as much as our parents did. Maybe you already are, and if that is the case, never mind. If not, ask for help. And if that doesn’t work, insist on help!

Okay, I:

– Drove the no-longer-lives-with-us Japanese teacher’s bicycle over to a new family’s house.

– Took two bins of my younger son’s books to the buyer at Powell’s. They bought around 1/3 of them for $39 cash or $57 in trade. I’ll let my son decide which. They rest will be up for offer at the garage sale. I scored the most awesome parking spot, which helped.

– Picked up one long folding table from my mother’s house. The second one was in an inaccessible spot, so will have to do!

– Stopped into Trader Joe’s, where I bought as easy dinner for tonight, as well as some tamales for lunch.

– Printed out the direction for how to get to my son’s job interview, which is in an odd area of the city and was making me nervous.

I am feeling a little more on top of things. A little 😉

Way to go to your son! After school, summer and weekend jobs for teens are real life learning experiences, for sure. Just the process of applying and interviewing is a life lesson.

overly busy days worry me too. I hope your garage sale goes well. You have inspired me to try it again this year. I tried last year with tons of stuff and it didn’t go well (it was also the hottest weekend of the year in my area). Hopefully this year will go better.

Okay, you are half way there. Next, call in the Craigslist ads. Then make your signs. You can always get up early and set up or get people to help you set up. People can pot their own daylilies at the sale, or you can do it as you are supervising people. Or, you can sell the leftover day lilies by another craigslist ad next week. I always want to cry before I pack for a trip. I am never as organized as I think I should be.

Make a big sign for the landscaping stones and the daylillies and post it. Then if you don’t have time to drag them from the backyard/ dig them up, people will still know they are for sale 🙂
