Curtains!

Before

After

Remember my Curtain Emergency from last week? Well, it took three days of work, but my mother and I finally finished them. (Okay, it was mostly her, but let’s not quibble about details.) The two of us are stumped as to why they took so long to complete, but it had something to with the rather slippery nature of sheer fabric and a rather unfortunate cut on a chalk line that was supposed to be a fold line.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback on the curtains, (I think there were 72 comments!) You guys actually changed my mind on how I was planning on doing them.

I’m happy with how they turned out. It’s nice to see the wood trim, and they let so much more light in than the previous ones did.

Thanks for all your feedback, my $5 curtains look terrific!

There, now my house is perfect! (Placing hands over ears, yelling la-la-la!)

Great idea, but would ruin the budget-y-ness of this project.

Katy, they look lovely! And I bet you and your mom had fun while working on them, even if it did take longer than expected. When is she coming to my house to work on my curtains? 🙂

By the way, I put the old curtains on Craigslist for free and they were gone by the next morning.

I was hoping for an “after” picture. They look great! I too have sworn off sewing slippery material after attempting to sew satin halloween bags one year. Natural fabrics only from now on!

Light, silky esq fabrics are a major pain in the butt to sew!

I think they look great too!
As for the Stained glass, thrift store, garage sales, yard sales, maybe just carry around some measurements from the window. My parents did stained glass for years right after they retired, all us kids got some nice custom pieces, and their home had many.

Well done, Katy. These really let your beautiful windows and wood trim show quite nicely. Your Mom’s handiwork is lovely, especially in person!!

Very nice!

I would never have thought to do them the different heights but I love them. Good work!

Love the curtains! I’ve made several sets of curtains and shades over the years, pinch-pleate, sheer, tab top, roman blinds etc, and love the look of well fitted curtains. Unfortunately, it always takes me longer to actually start the curtains than it usually takes to finish them! I think it’s always the worry about making a fold line/cut line mistake, as I usually get my material from the end of the roll section of the fabric store too.

They look fantastic! And I’m so glad you went with the different heights, very chic.
