Today I Am . . .

Today I am:

Lying in bed reading other people’s blogs, specifically:

  • Thinking that after yesterday’s high falutin’ words about decluttering, I should maybe get off my tuchus and go through some of my own crap.
  • Still in love with my new Goodwill lamps, which now live in my living room and bedroom. (And for those who may be wondering what their names are, I have dubbed them “Adler” and “Berkus.”)

Like so:

Lamp love

And so:

Lamp love 2

  • Enjoying the memory of going to Ikea with my 14-year-old son last night. (We were waiting to pick my mother up from the airport.) I bought him a 50¢ hot dog and we each slurped down a cup of their free Ikea Family coffee. Cheap date, but totally fun.
  • Embarrassed that I really like the new Carrie Diaries TV show. I highly doubt that I’m in their target demographic, but I’m loving it anyway.
  • Am on a super tight budget. The cost for labor and materials to build the trim surround for our built-in buffet was $1000, so we’re in crazy cheap mode for a paycheck or two.
  • Looking forward to seeing my friend Chelsea tomorrow. I sometimes forget to schedule adult play dates, but I’m always really happy when I do. (She suggested we meet at a tea shop, but my crazy cheap budgetary restraints have us meeting at my house.)

Now you. What are you doing today?

Yes, the dogs are cute, but I’m more a lighting person than a dog person.

*Love* his voice!

That bathroom light fixture! Swoon worthy!

My husband and I are painting the kitchen/dining room today, on the cheap cheap cheap. Dribs and drabs of gift cards are buying the paint and supplies and I can’t wait for our uglier-than-you-can-imagine cabinets to be a tiny bit cuter.

It’s amazing what a lick of paint’ll do!

(1) Doing some decluttering, inspired by you and all the commenters on the preceding post. Specifically, I’m taking various odds and ends of gracious living from our parents’ estates (too good for the Salvation Army but not likely to bring much on eBay, the market for these particular things being what it is right now) and boxing them up for a raffle/silent auction run by a favorite nonprofit. (And, no, I’m not just dumping what I can’t sell. This group will go nuts for these things.)

(2) Toasting my tootsies by our wood-burning fireplace insert. Those stubborn chokecherry roots that DH grubbed out of the backyard last summer burn like blazes.

(3) Enjoying oatmeal chocolate chip cookies brought over by the next-door neighbor, in return for our keeping her supplied with birdseed (we seriously overbought this year).

1) Did my usual Tuesday morning thrift store run (most things half-off for seniors on Tuesdays), which netted some heavy weight linen which will become new curtains for the study. The print’s a bit Victorian, but from the back side of the fabric it’s a lovely barely-there shadow-print. $3 new curtains. 🙂
2) Boiling the carcase of Saturday’s roast chicken to make stock.
3) Have the warp cut to set up some tablet weaving this evening while watching a dvd borrowed from a friend.
4) Selected four boxes from the many in the garage to go through tomorrow – with empty boxes / bags at the ready for “keep”, “donate” and “trash.” Might have an A&E Pride and Prejudice marathon with those.

I am going through 30+ years of photos. A few years back I made photo albums for each of my children, and my ex-husband. The rest I shoved in boxes. Well, I got an awesome deal on new photo albums at rite-aid. Buy 1 get 1 1\2 off.
So now I have no excuse not to get organized. My goal is to get it done before gardening season. I’d much rather play outside, then be stuck in the house, So maybe we’ll get dumped on with snow, and I ‘ll have to finish!!!!

I am a child of the 80’s who is really enjoying the Carrie Diaries, too! I think the way she is a real teen trying to find out who she is and what she wants to do with her life is well written! Hope the writing stays that way…
