Today I . . .

Today I . . .
  • Hung four loads of laundry.
  • Put away four loads of laundry.
  • Tidied up the dining room table.
  • Avoided tidying the dining room table by goofing around on Twitter and playing online Scrabble.
  • Drove kid to and from Japanese school.
  • Drove kid to and from soccer camp.
  • Drove kid to and from tennis with friends.
  • Drove kid to and from a birthday party.
  • Drove self to library, credit union & recycling center.
  • Baked a coffee cake at 10:00 P.M., after discovering that my son has a 7:00 A.M. potluck at work.
  • Cleaned and rearranged the guest bedroom to ready it for the Japanese exchange student who arrives for two weeks tomorrow.
  • Put away four loads of laundry.
  • Brushed my teeth, but didn’t shower.
  • Made lovely salads for dinner for me and my husband.
  • Bought pad thai for my son from a food  cart.
  • And tomorrow I work.

How about you?

Went to the doctor
Went to Costco (courtesy of my mom!)
Returned curtains at Bed Bath and Beyond, and bought a new rod
Installed said curtains and rod (well, really I watched while my husband and mom did…)
Went to the thrift store and found vintage Pyrex
Took a nap
Watched Tangled on Netflix Instant.
Said goodby to my mom (she lives on the opposite coast and was visiting for a week)

It was a good day off. Aside from that last thing. 🙁

I have to say, Sue, completely off topic, I hate that diagnosis of growing pains. as a kid I had terrible knee pain, and was told the same thing. At 46 I recently had surgery for a torn meniscus. turns out it was torn on the inside of my knee as well as the outside. This makes me wonder if the outside tear was a childhood injury which caused the considerable pain that recurred again and again until I was in my late 30s and became a couch potato.

I just think it is rather dismissive. that pain kept me awake at night as a kid!

I had “growing pains”, too. Scoliosis. Thankfully, not so severe that I need surgery.

And my mother used to yell at me all the time for frowning. I needed glasses.

I had to laugh at this one!

Since I work full-time, I do my second, unpaid job in the evenings and on weekends, trying to cram in some social & church time, too. One Saturday, I was really tired after supper and thought I hadn’t done “anything” really, so why was I so tired? I thought about and realized that I:

Went to farmer’s market
Went to grocery store
Got gas in the car
Did away groceries when I got home
Did a couple loads of laundry
Cleaned the house
Mowed the front yard

At that point, I took a shower and sat down with a good book until bedtime.

That should say “PUT away groceries”.

I’m still tired.

I feel really guilty today as I’ve done very little.
I got son up and made breakfast for my man and son. Son went to rock band camp on bus by himself.
Did dishes with man. Had adult time with man. Made lunch for son and man when son got home. Walked 4 miles return for bread and Radio Times in town. Had a cat nap. Surfed internet for a bit…

“Adult time,” huh?

It is always awkward to account for all the hours in my day when I do my “A Day in the Life of The Frugal Girl” posts. I just usually lump it all in as “Spent time with Mr. FG”. =P

I am blushing and turning red all over these comments. ;p

Adult time is ultra important on rare mornings when there are no chores to be done, no children in the house and its not a working day!

Fed and watered not only my cats, but my landlady’s dogs (she’s on vacation).
Watered landlady’s veggies as well as my herbs.
Got gas for the car.
Bought kale to replace coworker’s abandoned salad that I adopted Friday night.
Worked a full work day.
Stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond to get a mandoline and take advantage of a coupon about to expire.
Rehearsed play for 2.5 hours.
Picked up a couple of things at grocery store to tide me over the next few days.
Fed and watered alllll the animals again.

Yikes. I’m so glad someone else is walking the dogs. And I guess I can be glad that all I have to do today is work and rehearse. Oh, and memorize my lines to avoid public embarrassment next week. 🙂

It is not even noon here. I know it must be almost two at Katy’s. I am puzzled at the amount of work done. I mean, there is not time to hang and DRY four loads of laundry. I thought.

I got up and set the hens out about 10:45, still with only a tshirt on. Drank a Coke.
Drank milk to take antibiotic for horrendous sinus infection.
Read half dozen blogs while I cough and sneeze.

I am considering doing something else today.
Just considering:
Hang clothes on line
Do dishes
Wash, hang, and fold two more loads.
Bathe and brush my teeth.
Return bucket to Farmer’s market
Nap, nap, nap.

You people get a lot done by noon. Of course, when younger, not ill, and with others to think about, I did too.

That is what I thought too, but since I am on the East Coast it did not make sense to completed all those tasks already and be on Pacific time. Then I realized Katy said she baked a coffee cake at 10:00 p.m. so that would mean she did all that stuff yesterday. Phew! I was really starting to feel like an underachieving sloth.

Whew, thanks Katy for taking away my feeling of being the sloth or just having a slow washing machine and inefficient sunshine. I decided that since I almost fell down face first in the chicken pen when I bent over that I would dry clothes in the dryer today rather than falling down when I bent to get clothes to hang. Plus, I keep stumbling every time I come up the side steps.

Yikes, Practical Parsimony, that sounds like a verrrrrry bad sinus infection! Hope you feel better soon.

Yesterday at a local Goodwill (Raleigh, NC) I thought of you, Katy, when I purchased “A Taste of Oregon” a cookbook published by the Junior League of Eugene, 381 pages of recipes I’ll have fun with. Those tried and true recipes are the ones I love! Don’t know how the cookbook found its way to NC, but is surely worth the $0.75 I paid for it!

Today I went with my daughter into town so we could:

Drop off donation at food pantry
Return library books
FINALLY try the new cafe
Check the thrift store for a trunk
Stop at the awesome, cluttered little home store we so love so I could spend the last bit of my birthday money on a new chef’s knife and notched cooking spoons.
Stopped to sit and have a smoothie and a frappachino with my daughter.
Went to J.C. Penny’s so my daughter could use her 10.00 off coupon on the boots she has been salivating over that are now on big time sale. Makes me cringe to think about paying that much for ugly boots but she worked her rear off to earn the money and if ugly boots are her wish, then more power to her…lol

Finally, and quite sad for me, picked up the last few purchases she needs to……….waahh…………move into the dorms on Saturday 🙁

When did it become a reality that our baby would actually move out of our house?

And now, today I . . .

Drove my younger son to his Japanese school.
Swept and wiped down the downstairs hardwood floors.
Hung out with my father.
Washed and hung a single load of laundry.
Cleaned the bathroom. (A rarity, as I hate this job.)
Picked my son up from work.
Took my son to Grand Central Bakery, where I bought him a croissant and me a pumpkin muffin. We both got free iced mochas by mentioning their Twitter account.
Dropped off the enormous dead and unfixable TV to be e-cycled at “Free Geek.”
Drove downtown to pick up the Japanese exchange student.
Killed time downtown by visiting my father’s office and leaving a silly picture on his door.
Picked up the Japanese exchange student.
Made dinner.
Watched husband do dishes.
Agreed to get a “new” craigslist TV if my husband sells his never-used vintage tandem bicycle.
And yeah, I got work to let me stay home today, which is not frugal, (zero pay) but was necessary to make this day not implode.

Today: up at 4 a.m. coffee, walk thru garden out to the chickens, fed and watered. Back thru the garden picked some veggies, back to the house another cup of coffee…dressed for work…into town for job…cooked breakfast and lunch for the elementary school, cleaned school kitchen by 1 and back home…soaked feet one hour, load of laundry washed and dried…listened to husband and sons tell me about the price of sunflowers for the coming harvest and how tomato harvest is going. Prepped chops for dinner, sliced and dehydrated zukes from the a.m. garden trek…back out to the chickens, feed, water, gather eggs, soaker hoses on the berry beds and planted one tray (128) veggies transplants for the fall garden. Back in the house, finished dinner, warm bath and now I’m heading for bed to do it all again in the a.m.

Folded and put away two loads of laundry, washed and dried a third (we got back from a trip to visit my family – don’t normally do laundry in large bunches.)
Made the bed.
Made granola.
Boiled and peeled a dozen eggs.
Took a one hour cardio class.
Lifted weights x 1.5 hours.
Took a 45 minute group dance lesson.
Worked 8 hours.
Made dinner.
Went to the grocery store.
Putzed on the internet.

Oh my gosh, you guys are really making me feel like a sloth. Yesterday I:
Sweet talked the boyfriend into driving me to the train station.
Train / Worked a full day / Train / Walked a mile to home.
Picked up the kids from their dad’s.
Spent time catching up with kids and hearing about their trip.
Helped make dinner / eat dinner / clean up from dinner (all family activities).
2 loads of laundry for kids — they do the folding and putting away (or, in my son’s case, he doesn’t do!)
More hugs and kisses for kids. Can you tell I missed them while they were gone?
Off to bed to do it all again today.

What, no “adult time?!” 😉

The kids were away for 2 weeks with their dad! On their first day back, it was all about “kid time.” Don’t you worry, I fit plenty of “adult time” into my week. ;-D
