Five Frugal Things -- $1 Meals & Free Haircuts

1) I mowed through my "Lucky Day" copy of Mad Mabel in under 24 hours. Skillfully paced, unique protagonist and plot; plus fully fleshed out side characters. A++

I finished The Measure, although it wasn't my favorite. I appreciate the themes, but I feel like the author was knocking me over the head with them.
The multiple characters and short chapters made it hard to bond with any one of them. This got better when I'd read for longer chunks of time, but the book was an assignment rather than an indulgence.

2) I'm starting my Treat Yo' Self week tomorrow and received a timely email offering free haircuts at the Supercuts training center. You know I responded within minutes to secure my spot!
"Face frame is with long layers," here I come! Treating myself the non-consumer way.

3) I don't get drive-through all that often, but $1 meals earn my attention. Not sure if I'll take advantage of any $1 Taco Bell celebrity "Usual" meals, but I'll still tuck this information into my back pocket. You know . . . just in case.
Taco Bell is actually the closest fast food restaurant to my house.

4) I'll drive my husband to the Portland airport this afternoon, so I'll be stopping into Ikea for a $1.40 veggie dog and some free coffee! I even remembered to slip my thrifted "Subaru Ambassador" travel mug into my purse.

I'm so fancy!

5) I didn't lie about my professional licensure and lose my job. Katy > Katie.
I know a thing or two after decades of protecting my professional license.
Now your turn, what frugal things have you been up to?

Yeah, I am licensed in two different states as an attorney, studied long hours to take and pass those two bars because back then reciprocity was not really allowed in the state I currently practice, and have worked HARD for 39 years! It has irritated me that she misled folks.
Happy first day of "Treat yo self".
Yeah, that whole Katie flap was a train wreck. Beautiful France is a wreck. I am not watching tv, reading the news or listening
to podcasts other than Absolutely Not or The Bad Broadcast.
Reading a book other than non fiction, borrowed "Whistler" by Ann Patchett.
A long hot bath. Fresh sour dough bread. Wake up! Today is family dinner! Personal pizzas, garden salad and brownie ice cream dessert bar. All the other stuff will have to wait for tomorrow! Thank the stars I am retired. Will watch the Draconid meteor shower tonight.
My aunt just came to stay with me for a weekend of "treat yo' [our] self" weekend, and we were semi-frugal.
1. My work apartment is very small, and only has one bed/bedroom, which I gave to my aunt, while I slept on a blow-up mattress in the living room (It is only a 2 room apartment with a bathroom). So free lodging for her and perfectly fine for me.
2. Friday night, we did go out to a fancy cocktail bar where we each had a cocktail and shared 2 appetizers, and then we went to our local, indy movie theatre to see Sense & Sensibility (thinking of you, A. Marie!). Buttered popcorn was our dinner. I was able to get her ticket for the senior price.
3. I drink coffee black and she uses cream, so she brought herself enough for 2 days, as well as the ingredients for her breakfast shake. I rarely eat breakfast, so no money there. The coffee was from Aldi, made in the old Mr. Coffee coffeemaker that I got from Buy Nothing.
3. On Saturday, after the free breakfast, we went to Bard College's art museum, which is free. We then went to Olana (home of F. Church) which was PACKED with people. We paid for tickets to tour the home, but I don't mind contributing to historic preservation. We bought nothing in the gift shop. We stopped by a cheese shop for lunch, where I had a grilled cheese and tap water, and my aunt just got a drink (she was still full from her breakfast). She bought me my sandwich; I ate only half and brought the rest home, which I had for today's lunch.
4. For dinner last night, I made buckwheat kasha bowls (she is celiac) with sauteed broccoli (from free CSA box) and chickpeas (bought on sale), with feta and pumpkin seed oil, pumpkin seeds, and cilantro. I did have to buy chicken stock, garlic, and cilantro at the grocery store, but they were all on sale, and I'll eat the leftovers for dinner tonight. My aunt brought some cheese and crackers for our appetizer and macaroons for dessert.
5. We stayed in last night and binged on Singnora Volpe on Acorn, and she gave me her login info so that I can continue watching it.
I had saved and created a budget for the weekend, but I only spent half of what I budgeted. And, I saved money by not driving 3.5 hours (each way) to go home.
