Five Frugal Things — Pendleton Wool & Free Ice Cream

1) I saw something on social media about free ice cream if the Portland Trailblazers basketball team leads at halftime. I took a screenshot and forgot about it until last night, when I remembered to check my Fred Meyer (Kroger) app.

Hello, free pint of ice cream! It was close to 10 P.M., so I didn’t rush out to the store. However I’ll most definitely use this deal going into the future, as I live within walking distance of a Fred Meyer.
To clarify — this is the only way in which I’m a sports fan.
I wonder if any other NBA teams have similar deals with their Kroger stores?

2) I treated my friend Lise to lunch at a local restaurant, which was fun for both of us. She and I normally socialize by running errands or going on walks together, so this felt extra indulgent.
The best way to enjoy a “Treat Yourself” week is to treat a friend.

3) Lise then asked if I had time to hit the closest Goodwill store. Umm . . . say less!
We walked into the store and immediately spied a fresh rack with a possibly vintage Hudson Bay (Pendleton?) wool blanket priced at just $7.99! (The tag had been removed, so it’s hard to say which it was.) Either way, I grabbed that blanket!
It’s a bit felted, but not horrifically so. I’ll try and stretch it out, but will do some research before attempting anything.

For now, I have it hanging in my youngest’s childhood bedroom. You can see that there’s no damage beyond the slight shrinkage. Not even a single moth hole!

4) I also bought six unopened sleeves of vintage Solo brand “Jazz” disposable cups. This may sound insane, but people are nostalgic about the bygone graphics on these cups.

Asking and sold prices are all over the place on these cups, but I figured it was worth the gamble at just $2.99 apiece. Especially since my total added up to more than $25, which was enough to earn a 5% “Goodwill Club” discount.

To quote Broad City, “In da klerb, we all fam!” Only the “klerb” is Goodwill and only some of us are “fam.”

5) I didn’t buy a used neti pot, which as always was shelved with the creamers and gravy boats. I did send a photo to it to my college friend Lisa, asking if she’d “like some cream in her coffee?”
The two of us joke about things we’d never buy used. She’s more squeamish than I am, but we’re both in agreement about used neti pots.
Now your turn, what frugal things have you been up to?

Speaking of blankets….I saw a Star Trek blanket at Goodwill and remembered your table of elements blanket. So I bought it and it sold pretty quick for $44! Thank you for your ebay reselling inspiration!
Yay, I love that!
Thrift Store bargain basement only open on Fridays. We stopped in because it was so close to an estate sale. Picked up a lined laundry basket for $2, a cake pan insert for my instapot $1, Stainless steel salad tongs .50¢ and a missed Pullman bread pan $2. At the estate sale I picked up quilt batting for 2 queen quilts, cotton $4/ both. 1950’s linen napkin set with D embroidery $4/ set of 12. Gift for SIL.
4 big containers of cat litter $4/ea. Silicone foam bandages 4 in a pkg $1/pkg bought 5 as they come in handy when I do family nursing. Bought a saw blade $5, crafty paints for rock painting with the neighbor kids.
4 big bags of potting soil for $2/bag. Concrete walkway form $1. Well, that’s more than 5 frugal things!
My Pendleton Hudson Bay blanket is Black, yellow, red and dark green. It was the blanket my Grandpa took to college in ’28. I would’ve bought that one, too. It’s a favorite size to use around the fire pit this time of year.
*lidded Pullman bread pan. Need to have a talk with auto correct.
1) Renegotiated a CD while it’s in the negotiation window, and chose the option with the best rate. Now I need to do a cash flow plan for 2027, during the time I’m not working, & ensure I don’t lock up all of my cash in CDs. The best interest rates at the moment are for longer duration, vs the rest of the year, when it’s been shorter term CDs.
2) Went to the grocery store & picked up a few items on sale + what I was there for (dinner & lunch ingredients). We are low on leftovers after being out of town over the weekend, and DS20 always likes to have easy lunch options between shifts. I picked up sandwich fixings, which we don’t keep on hand regularly, so are a pleasant surprise when they are in the fridge.
3) Picked more pomegranate off of our tree.
4) Drove my electric car for errands.
Can’t think of anything else.
Oh, that’s a Pendleton blanket, unless it’s a knockoff. I love those blankets. $7.99 is an amazing price.
I have been busy today. I cleaned out part of my basement storage unit, so I would have room for my big pedestal fan. Which I’m not taking down there yet, because I might use it before cold weather hits. But I wanted to be ready. Anyway, I found a stadium blanket I’d forgotten about, a Kia trunk storage thingy I might try to sell, and a box of toys my grandsons used to play with. I’m going to go through it to see if there’s anything worth selling, but first I’ll let my sentimental younger grandson take a look.
I finally got around to processing my aging carrots into slices and shreds, and they’re in the freezer. I had to learn how to use the food processor all over again, it’s been so long.
I carried back the stuff I took out of the car when I got the carpeting done. Most of it. I took the opportunity to go through things first, one by one.
I packed for my trip tomorrow, just need to add stuff tomorrow that I’ll be using tonight or in the morning.
I’m taking a bag of stuff to donate to the Habitat store in my friend’s town. Ours has closed.
I used up the last of my marinated artichoke hearts in a sour cream dip. With crackers and carrot sticks, it was a good lunch.
