Non-Consumer Photo Essay — Brand New Socks!
Autumn is showing off her depth of color here in Portland, so it’s the perfect opportunity to share some photos.

My concrete fawn is half buried in maple leaves, which is unsurprising this time of year when my tree carpets approximately 800,000+ leaves onto the backyard.

My hydrangeas also receive their fair share of maple leaves. I love how the flowers switch from blue to a pinkish-rust color in the fall.

The scent from my Buy Nothing group apples permeate the kitchen. The colors are so pretty, it’s no wonder that fruit have been the main subject for still life paintings through the centuries.

I enjoyed this one while watching Jeopardy.
By the way, that answer was “What is Dos Equis?”

My daughter continues to recover from her cold (flu?) at the house, which means I get bonus kitty snuggles. Behold Tuna’s “toe beans.”

I’m wearing my favorite cozy socks on repeat. I sourced this pair from the Goodwill bins a few years back and finally employed Google Lens to identify the brand. (“Sandsuced”) They turn out to be Merino wool blend skiing socks, which explains why they’re so warm and cushy.
Socks are something I’m willing to buy new, (although I’m obviously open to buying used on occasion) so I ordered a three-pack in various patterns. They’re more knee high than their thrifted cousin, but I’m hoping they’ll wear better than my hand knit socks that seem to require every-other-wear darning services.

This purple pair are so pretty, but pretty much dissolve with each wearing.

Libby/library ebook update: finished “American Pope” about Pope Leo XIV (very good), and have on hold “Ethel Kennedy” and “Making It So” autobiography by Patrick Stewart. You may see a theme here, biographies, but I really just love and read non-fiction.
Re: The hand knit socks. The pair my daughter knitted for me years ago wear like ‘steel’ and are super comfy. So I’m guess inferior yarn used in the making process. (? my guess)
That’s what I was thinking too. I have some socks I knit 10 years ago that I’m still wearing, have only needed to darn them once.
I hope you don’t end up with purple feet from those socks!
1. Went down to the Spectrum phone store, having finally remembered my old PIN for it. They changed their story. They first told me weeks ago that I’d have to find out the PIN and bring it down there to have it fixed, unlocked, jail breaked, whatever. NOW they claim they can’t jailbreak the phone, I have to call an 800 number. I did, and finally got a Spectrum person who helped me….she was halfway across the country, in the Carolinas. Thank you, Jade! Anyway, I got the memory erased and the phone unlocked and I will give it to my coworker who broke her phone. This is a $400 frugal fail but I feel OK about it because I get to help a friend at work who is down on her luck. (Meanwhile I got a TMoble phone for very little money). So happy not to have to deal with Spectrum ever again!
2. Got a free car wash.
3. Found the missing autumn sock. I have a pair that has orange-colored fall leaves on them. One sock was in a drawer, the other in a box in another room, but I found them and am wearing them again! (Now maybe I can find the missing brown turkey-print sock before Thanksgiving…its mate is in the same drawer)
4. Hooked up my former bedroom TV in the computer room so I can watch DVDs.
5. Washed and put away all the Halloween t-shirts for another year.
