I love my neighborhood.
There’s just so much to walk to. Library, art supplies, restaurants, schools, groceries, bookstores. But I do have to say that my favorite local amenity is The Bagdad Theater. A wonderful historic and gorgeous theater that shows second-run movies and serves pizza and micro-brew beers. (I vividly remember sneaking into this theater as a high-schooler to see the movie St. Elmo’s Fire, which my friend Mara and I felt was beneath us — but, um. . . Rob Lowe.)
I walked my sons and their friends to see the movie Iron Man yesterday, and the cost of admission for the five of us was seven dollars.
Seven dollars!
(That’s just crazy talk!)
That amount wouldn’t even get one of us into a first-run movie.
Because the admission was so cheap, I felt justified splurging on a $17 pepperoni pizza. And yes, we drank tap water.
So thank you Bagdad Theater, and thank you Robert Downey Jr.
Now I just need to know what what do about that Iron Man song stuck in my head.

One of the things I miss most about Portland (I grew up there, but left about seven years ago) is all the second run movie theaters, especially the ones run by the McMenamins. There really aren’t any second run theaters in Philly, which is a total shame.
I wish we had a second run movie theater, sounds very cool.
My favourite Cheap-O experience is to drop into my Dad’s house for lunch! LOL
