Today I am . . .
- Proud that I got the kids to school on time and without any drama. (My older son is a dyed in the wool night owl, which makes the morning routine less than ideal.)
- Taking advantage of the sunny day to wash my cream colored towels, which have become super dingy looking. I figure a day on the clothesline should brighten them up.
- Getting to work on my new blog decor blog, even though the process of setting up a new blog is intimidating and confusing to me.
- Going to work some exercise and sunshine into my day, as my pale Oregon flab is starting to bother me.
- Reading this article about a family of four who lives on $14,000 per year, and thinking how I was needing some fresh inspiration and ideas.
- Hoping the day warms up enough to open the windows and bring some fresh air into the house.
- Appreciating the beauty and health of my family, my friends and my readership.
Now you. What are you doing today?

1. In prayer for a good friend who’s father will be having a quadruple bypass tomorrow.
2. Happy to send my 7 y/o off in his super cool outfit I got at the goodwill this w/end. A new University of Miami t-shirt (Nike w/tags still on), a pair of camo pants and a Gap jacket…all for under $10. Yesssss!
3. Going to do laundry after work
4. Make Chili for dinner. We are finally having some cold weather here in North Florida so I’m taking advantage of getting in a yummy pot of Chili (which will make for good lunch leftovers too!)
Waiting for the temperature to rise so I can go outside and play in the dirt!!!!!!!1 yahooo
Today I am…
…Looking forward to the “leftover stew” that’s simmering at home in my crockpot ( Red lentils, barley, leftover soup from last time, leftover chicken, leftover roasted veggies, the last of the bbq sauce swished out with water, onions, carrots, potatoes, celery, bay leaf, periperi seasoning, pepper, homemade chicken stock. Who knows?!)
…Nervous about starting the second course in my Masters program, Educational Research.
…Excited about the field trip I’m planning with my alternative school students.
…Nervous about getting enough students to sign up to pay for the cost of the trip!
…Thrilled to have finally gotten rid of cable tv! Hello, extra savings!
…discovering new, interesting blogs and websites!
…eating leftovers for lunch (gotta save that $!)
…loving the cool, sunny day
…determined to do some sort of exercise/activity after dinner
…working up the self-discipline to cut costs enough to save extra money for a house and car!
Love your blog…just stumbled upon it today at work. What a nice distraction! I will be sure to come back often, and when I have more time to look around the entire site. I can always use extra inspiration to be more frugal!

Did I miss the info on a new blog?
No. I’m waiting to announce it until there’s an actual blog to announce.

Today I am…
-grateful my daughter and I both got a clean bill of dental health at the dentist. Yay!
-enjoying a beautiful, sunny day that is in the low 70s.
-cooking chicken noodle soup because I have a head cold.
-hopeful my dad will make it in from offshore safely tomorrow. I always worry when he flies in or out.
I am 32 years old and am still a night owl. Mornings and I just aren’t friends. It isn’t waking up that is the problem. It is really the time. If I wake up between 4-8 in the morning, I spend most of the day feeling slightly ill. Any other time of the day (or night) and I’m fine. Dunno why.
Glad you can open your windows, Katy! It is intermittent blowing dust here in my neck of the woods. The blizzard in Texas loosened the topsoil just enough for the wind to carry it away.
And today I am..
Glad I got my back fence replaced last week. Section blew down in December, have been propping it up since.
Today I am:
-Catching up on dishes (yesterday was my husband’s birthday!)
-General around the house picking up, vacuuming and sweeping.
-Washing laundry
-Tending my spring seedlings
-Getting a Food Handler’s Card so I can start my part-time job tomorrow at a local vegan eatery
-Going to the library to figure out why I can’t access books online anymore
-Making a meal plan
-Cooking dinner (Tacos and Posole, both vegan)
-Get things ready for work tomorrow
I can’t wait for your new decor blog. I stink at decorating (or maybe I’m just lazy).
Today I..
-went to work ( I work a half day )
-went to playground with my son (I <3 half day kindergarten)
-started dinner (chicken and rice soup )
-thought about doing laundry ( haven't actually jumped the gun on that yet )
Kate
Today I am:
Working on organizing my messy desk
Going to choir practice
Congratulating my son that he received his first tax refund check
Eating M&Ms
Smiling that I’m eatng M&Ms
Getting on the scale because of eating M&Ms
Snuggling with my cat
Writing a book
I hope you all have an awesome day!
Today I am . . .
1. Happy to have celebrated my husband’s birthday at dinner last night, in a new restaurant, with my clever, loving daughter and her clever, loving older son.
2. Spray-painting the deliberately-unmatching wood chairs — red, natch — for one of our rental cottages. Three down, one to go. Must go to Goodwill As-Is to find the fourth. (Lifelong mantra: Matching is tacky!)
3. Happy to have cleaned out and refurbished our kitchen pantry, including have additional, already-laminated-and-don’t-need-painting shelves cut for it at Lowe’s.
4. Having yet another bash at a nettlesome paper, next to next to last of the papers to complete my master’s degree.
5. Having to acknowledge that I really HAVE to write, period, to stay semi-sane. Almost doesn’t matter what it is.
6. Contemplating the mountain of other household to-dos, especially the laundry. One of the advantages/disadvantages of having triple-loader machines (which, incidentally, resemble a pair of metallic-red PT Cruisers parallel-parked in the basement) is the tendency to let the chore grow bigger and bigger.
1) Work.
2). Trying to appreciate the fact that I have a full time job.
3). Being thankful that my work day is over.
4). Drinking wine to de-stress from work.
5). Go to bed early to get ready for work tomorrow.
🙂
my day is almost ended, but i am so appreciative of what i have in my life, both relationships, health and the roof over our heads; i did my volunteer gig today and am now home to do my home duties, plus do some more reading i am also very happy to be part of such a wonderful supportive group
Can’t wait for the new blog, Katy!
Hey, how does that family of 4 live on $14,000/year. Can’t figure out how they afford stuff like insurance (health, property). Does she ever mention that on her blog? Looks like she budgets $400/month for groceries. And she has no mortgage or car payments. But still….can’t wrap head around it. Do they get free care since her hubby is in the army? Medicaid since their income is so low?
I think we could afford to live on less than we do if healthcare and health insurance weren’t so damn expensive. I work mostly for the health insurance for our family. Last time we self-insured through a private plan, our premiums were $900/month. And costs have only gone up since then.
Today I am…
…feeling a little sick and nauseated. I had to leave work early. 🙁
…happy that I felt well enough to enjoy the sunshine and take my dog on a 40 minute walk.
…full of delicious ham and bean stew and cornbread
…snuggling with my puppy.
Today I…
…. was followed home by 6 baby chicks.
…. washed a load of laundry which I need to fold before going to bed
…. simplified the menu plan until it become routine
Today I
…went to work and realized that I need to be more detail-oriented than I am by nature
….snuggled with cats
….had a quiet dinner with my boys while husband was in class
….read in the amazing downtown public library on my lunch hour.
Today I
…installed the infant carseat in the ol’ minivan to make sure all the kiddos will fit in their new spots
…laundered the nice stack of thrift store napkins I picked up over the weekend that match a tablecloth I already own
…began organizing 6 years worth of digital photos that have been downloaded onto the computer with little rhyme or reason during that time, also taking the opportunity to actually delete all the blurry and bad ones. (I also realized that you should never ask a woman in labor if she wants pictures of the baby coming out after the epidural has kicked in…I did not enjoy seeing those pictures which I somehow missed – or blocked out the memory of – the existence of for the past almost six years. If I had not been drugged I would have said h*** no, I don’t want pictures of that!!!)
…gave in to the prego lady craving for a blizzard and gave thanks for a husband who would go get it for me
* being thankful for my healthy and happy baby
* studying Climate Change and Sustainable Development
* sharing my experiences on my blog
* knitting a cocoon for my best friends baby that is due soon
* saying “Thank you, Katy, for being my inspiration!”
* reading the article you linked 😉
Today i am working in my home office and happy to be doing so. I bought a steam cleaner this weekend (didn’t really want to spend the money but our carpets really need it and it is too expensive to have a company come and do this and when I rent a machine there always seems to be a problem and you have to bring it back the next day) and I cleaned two bedrooms, hallway and living room carpets. That was a lot of work but they look so nice. This weekend I’ll do the other bedroom and furniture. That’s why I’m happy to sit at my desk all day, I can’t move, my hiney is killing me.
…getting ready to welcome a new puppy into our household
…stressing about the costs associated with said new puppy
…trying to remember the absolute joy a puppy will bring to my daughter and the rest of the family
…dressed to get on the treadmill but am reading email and blogs first
…hoping to get through the rest of my to-do list.
Today I am….
– relieved I FINALLY made it to the passport office for renewal
– still thinking about the awesome conversation I had with a friend over dinner last night, I always learn something new from her
– loathing the giant mess I have to clean up from said dinner
– hoping the rain holds out because I didn’t bring an umbrella, boots or a raincoat to work
