Back at Goodwill!
Greetings from Goodwill, where I accompanied my friend on her quest for used silverware. Of course I'm always scanning the shelves for:
A) Low priced items to resell.
B) Quality practical items for my own home.
It was senior discount day, (you only have to be 55!) so everything was an additional 10% off.
I know it's not exciting, but I don't remember ever seeing a snap-on loaf pan lid. It was unfortunately priced at $7.99, which seems a bit much, but I put it on my radar and will start keeping an eye out for this lid at the Goodwill bins. It would be a handy addition to my kitchen supplies.
Remember -- Anything that's ever been manufactured will eventually hit Goodwill!
This sweet hand painted Italian trinket box caught my eye, (for resell, not to keep -- teeny things push my "that's too cluttery" button.) It didn't resell for much, so I put it back even though it was only 99¢.
It was very sweet, I can see why someone probably schlepped it home from Italy.
This itty bitty ceramic trinket box did tick my boxes, as it was Limoge and "Completed Items" on eBay showed that one recently sold for $32.98.
I ended paying just 85¢ for it, as the senior discount brought the price down to 89¢ and I paid in cash. (They no longer give pennies with your change.) Modern Limoge boxes start around $300, so this was an excellent find.
This Tutankhamun tissue box holder prompted me to text my husband and ask if his workplace would be holding another white elephant gift exchange this Christmas. It was both the best and worst item in Goodwill! I ended up not buying it, which I may later regret come December.
I had to look up this oddly shaped office chair, as the front hump gave me an "uh oh" feeling weirded me out. I kind of figured it was for someone who has to lean forward at work, so I was thinking maybe dentist? Turns out it's called a "Saddle stool" and used by aestheticians.
I guess you really do learn something new each day!
I recognized these Ikea graphic curtains, so I looked up what they sell for on eBay. I saw the solds and pulled the trigger, as they were priced at $14.99 for the pair, which came down to $13.49 after my senior discount.
I love the bold graphics of Marimekko, but their pricing is beyond most people's budgets. Ikea prints can often scratch that itch.
I continue to scan the racks for western style denim shirts and although this shirt came close, it was missing the plackets and pearl snaps. A number of people have asked if I'd consider selling my embroidered shirts and I think it would be a fun side hustle.
What did my friend buy? A jumble of forks and a specific glass dish she'd been looking for.
Okay, do you think I should've bought that Egyptian tissue box?

I think the tissue box is a winner. Does the tissue come out of his nose?
I have an appointment in Portland today, so I mapped out a route that conveniently passes a bins location. I found a nice Garnet Hill cardigan, in my size, and in a color people always say compliments me, in a picked over bin. It’s a style that still sells on their website — for $159!
I also got a huge commercial-kitchen-sized stainless steel bowl. It seems like it will be useful. I don’t have a specific use identified, but if I didn’t get it, 2 weeks from now, I’d find myself in a situation where I’d say to myself, “Why didn’t you get the ginormous bowl??”
No on the tissue box, but maybe yes on the Pyrex. Finding a lid is very rare, in my experience. I agree the price is rather high.
I went to Sam's this morning, but not before I found a parking ticket on my car. $75 -- ouch! I'm kind of annoyed because I did not receive the text message about street sweeping from the city in advance -- or at all. I rely on those texts, but of course they are just a courtesy; you are supposed to be informed by the signs (which I never look at, because I get a text!) I called to let them know there may be a problem with their messaging. But I also entered the dates going forward on my calendar, because I'm not trusting them anymore.
At Sam's I bought toilet paper, CoQ10, hot dog buns and coffee creamer. I was intending to also buy a rotisserie chicken and raspberries, but I decided I didn't really need them. I also did not fill up my gas tank, as I still have half a tank full.
I also went to a body shop to ask if they replace automobile carpeting or knew who did. They have a person who does that, but he's out of the country right now. I Googled for other options, and figured out that it will probably be $1000, mostly for labor, because seats have to be removed, etc. That gives me pause, but the carpeting is in terrible shape. It was a rental car before I bought it.
Breakfast today was another slice of quiche Lorraine and some prunes. Lunch was a hot dog and sauteed broccoli florets.
I cleaned out my pantry baskets and found a couple of energy bars lurking at the bottom, so I had one for an afternoon snack. Don't know if I will have dinner -- not hungry yet.
Hi Beth, we have bought Weathertech mats for cars with tired carpet. They are made to fit the exact car make and model, so they don't move around and provide complete coverage. Might be a cheaper option for you. They are something we always buy now, if we ever have to get a different car. So easy to clean too.
