Back at Goodwill!
Greetings from Goodwill, where I accompanied my friend on her quest for used silverware. Of course I'm always scanning the shelves for:
A) Low priced items to resell.
B) Quality practical items for my own home.
It was senior discount day, (you only have to be 55!) so everything was an additional 10% off.
I know it's not exciting, but I don't remember ever seeing a snap-on loaf pan lid. It was unfortunately priced at $7.99, which seems a bit much, but I put it on my radar and will start keeping an eye out for this lid at the Goodwill bins. It would be a handy addition to my kitchen supplies.
Remember -- Anything that's ever been manufactured will eventually hit Goodwill!
This sweet hand painted Italian trinket box caught my eye, (for resell, not to keep -- teeny things push my "that's too cluttery" button.) It didn't resell for much, so I put it back even though it was only 99¢.
It was very sweet, I can see why someone probably schlepped it home from Italy.
This itty bitty ceramic trinket box did tick my boxes, as it was Limoge and "Completed Items" on eBay showed that one recently sold for $32.98.
I ended paying just 85¢ for it, as the senior discount brought the price down to 89¢ and I paid in cash. (They no longer give pennies with your change.) Modern Limoge boxes start around $300, so this was an excellent find.
This Tutankhamun tissue box holder prompted me to text my husband and ask if his workplace would be holding another white elephant gift exchange this Christmas. It was both the best and worst item in Goodwill! I ended up not buying it, which I may later regret come December.
I had to look up this oddly shaped office chair, as the front hump gave me an "uh oh" feeling weirded me out. I kind of figured it was for someone who has to lean forward at work, so I was thinking maybe dentist? Turns out it's called a "Saddle stool" and used by aestheticians.
I guess you really do learn something new each day!
I recognized these Ikea graphic curtains, so I looked up what they sell for on eBay. I saw the solds and pulled the trigger, as they were priced at $14.99 for the pair, which came down to $13.49 after my senior discount.
I love the bold graphics of Marimekko, but their pricing is beyond most people's budgets. Ikea prints can often scratch that itch.
I continue to scan the racks for western style denim shirts and although this shirt came close, it was missing the plackets and pearl snaps. A number of people have asked if I'd consider selling my embroidered shirts and I think it would be a fun side hustle.
What did my friend buy? A jumble of forks and a specific glass dish she'd been looking for.
Okay, do you think I should've bought that Egyptian tissue box?

I think the tissue box is a winner. Does the tissue come out of his nose?
I have an appointment in Portland today, so I mapped out a route that conveniently passes a bins location. I found a nice Garnet Hill cardigan, in my size, and in a color people always say compliments me, in a picked over bin. It’s a style that still sells on their website — for $159!
I also got a huge commercial-kitchen-sized stainless steel bowl. It seems like it will be useful. I don’t have a specific use identified, but if I didn’t get it, 2 weeks from now, I’d find myself in a situation where I’d say to myself, “Why didn’t you get the ginormous bowl??”
I have a bowl like that! Purchased because I have a recipe for Monster Cookies that would not fit in any other size. It also makes a fabulous bowl to assemble and mix a big batch of Chex Mix in.
No on the tissue box, but maybe yes on the Pyrex. Finding a lid is very rare, in my experience. I agree the price is rather high.
I went to Sam's this morning, but not before I found a parking ticket on my car. $75 -- ouch! I'm kind of annoyed because I did not receive the text message about street sweeping from the city in advance -- or at all. I rely on those texts, but of course they are just a courtesy; you are supposed to be informed by the signs (which I never look at, because I get a text!) I called to let them know there may be a problem with their messaging. But I also entered the dates going forward on my calendar, because I'm not trusting them anymore.
At Sam's I bought toilet paper, CoQ10, hot dog buns and coffee creamer. I was intending to also buy a rotisserie chicken and raspberries, but I decided I didn't really need them. I also did not fill up my gas tank, as I still have half a tank full.
I also went to a body shop to ask if they replace automobile carpeting or knew who did. They have a person who does that, but he's out of the country right now. I Googled for other options, and figured out that it will probably be $1000, mostly for labor, because seats have to be removed, etc. That gives me pause, but the carpeting is in terrible shape. It was a rental car before I bought it.
Breakfast today was another slice of quiche Lorraine and some prunes. Lunch was a hot dog and sauteed broccoli florets.
I cleaned out my pantry baskets and found a couple of energy bars lurking at the bottom, so I had one for an afternoon snack. Don't know if I will have dinner -- not hungry yet.
Hi Beth, we have bought Weathertech mats for cars with tired carpet. They are made to fit the exact car make and model, so they don't move around and provide complete coverage. Might be a cheaper option for you. They are something we always buy now, if we ever have to get a different car. So easy to clean too.
The problem in my car is that the carpet is actually coming loose from the frame. It bunches up and people trip on it! It is happening in areas that are not flat, so mats wouldn't help. But thanks for the suggestion! Weathertech products are great!
Yessss, I would've picked up the King Tut tissue holder. My cousin and I went to the 1978 Centennial exhibition in Seattle. I would give it to him as a T.A.S. (tacky a$$ shtuff) gift. Like the small jeweled bronze King Tut toothpick holder I once gifted him from the bins. He still has it 20 yrs later. Too funny.
The Pyrex lidded loaf pan is my favorite fridge dish. I usually pick them up for $2-$4 at garage or estate sales.
I've doubled up on my hummingbird nectar as the Southern migration is happening right now. Normally have 4 birds daily, yesterday I counted 13 at the feeder at dusk.
Go back and grab that tissue box right now! 😉

Also, during my two week long (so far) purge and organize, last night I found a mink hat and a Coach bag in the dress up bin. From where? Who the hell knows? Will I be ebaying them, hell yes. I also found a Prada one, but I think it's a fake. Need to do some research on that. It's a pretty good dupe, though.
Given all of the press around the Bayeux Tapestry (first time being exhibited in England in a very long time, and tickets to see it selling out in 24 hours) it may be the PERFECT time to cash in on its current popularity!
Other than that, for me same-old, same-old: free crappy coffee at work, free delicious lunch at work (grilled salmon and vegetables), same old clothes, etc.
Frugal fail: partner put mortadella on the grocery list, after seeing it in the circular as "on sale." I wrote on the grocery list IN ALL CAPS that the sale price was for 4 ounces (it was pre-packaged) and that the per-pound price at the deli counter would be much better. Sure enough, he was exceedingly proud of himself, telling me that he saved $1.00 by buying the pre-packaged, until I pointed out that the deli price was for 16 ounces, not 4 ounces....
The Bayeux Tapestry is currently at the British Museum - a big deal - and I'd bet that Tapestry items are going to be popular this year.
1. Picked up an empty toothpaste tube in a parking lot and put it in my bin to bring to Tare Market, a zero-waste store in Minneapolis that provides a way to recycle oral care items.
2. Received a $1,550 property tax refund.
3. Brought home leftover pita bread from a get-together and used it to finish hummus that I had received as a gift.
4. Went to the Friends of the Library book sale. Bought seven books for $4 (after applying my $5 member coupon).
5. Invited my sister on a free two-hour riverboat ride hosted by a charity that I support. Free refreshments, too! We had a nice visit with someone who used to work with our dad, who died 18 years ago.
Seen an Easter Island face tissue box but never an Egyptian one.
Noticed on the photo of your denim shirt that you didn't add stitching to the front placket, so maybe the GW CK one's lack of a placket wouldn't be an issue fora buyer, nor the regular buttons. And you didn't show/list the shirts price. But I think it would be a great opportunity and a natural follow-up for you to stitch and sell them!
I think my mother has that Easter Island tissue box.
I like the western style shirts, but I guess there's no hard and fast rule about that.

I'm not sure about the Egyptian box...but I definitely would have considered the large gold teapot on the shelf in photo #1. And yes, absolutely -- anything connected with the Bayeux tapestry is hot right now.
We went to Normandy last summer, when the tapestry was still in residence near there. Unfortunately, I could not get Husband and friends to consider going to it. I still regret that, although the WWII sites were interesting.
I'm going to start doing some research, I've heard of the tapestry but never really read about it.
