Oh yeah, I forgot. I’m not an artist.

I love that you shared this! About 85% of my crafty projects turn out less than desirable, and yours always look so good to me. Thanks for the confession, it made me laugh.

Funny–but it really did look good from my side! Thanks for making it real!

I’m like Kelli, looked fine to me! But, I think you helped us all by being “real” and letting us know it is okay to try and not always come up with the results we thought we would get. So, then you move forward and try something new. Plus, I love your laugh and great sense of humor. That is invaluable.

hahaha your video made me laugh out loud. It really doesn’t look too bad on video, but I totally know what you mean about the ‘dangers’ of DIY, Pinterest, etc. A few months ago I saw an “easy” tutorial to turn bootcut jeans into skinny jeans, so I tried that. Needless to say I ruined some pants. So now I’m going to be sparing with the sewing machine and scissors. 🙂

At least you tried!

It didn’t look too bad online… but the internet hides lots of imperfections. I think we are always a harder judge on ourselves than other people are. I painted my entire house when we moved in and I know exactly where I messed up and every crooked line is. No one else does but I do. I tried to make some of those pretty yarn wrapped bottles I saw on pinterest and they turned out horrible. Needless to say I put them back into the recycling bucket. But I guess you never know unless you try. You will have to post your after picture when your cabinet is fixed.

An optical illusion, as I had just taken a ponytail out that I’d been wearing all day.

I love your video and, like most of the above, think your chalkboard door looks pretty good. Thanks for your honesty. You really do need a show on the *Frugal Network* :).

Katy- thanks for your video. Love your honesty and I think the message is great. Not everything will turn out and you can do it over, plus a bonus for having tried. With that said, I didn’t think your door looked that bad. I am quite impressed with the flourishes. Have a great weekend!

Awww… you have a great sense of humour, a much needed quality for a blogger AND a DIY-er! I can relate. Thanks for this!

I thought it looked great! But I tend to celebrate the imperfections since there are so many in my home and decorating … 😉

I also thought that it looked great. I really liked the effect that you achieved 🙂

Ha! I have taken pictures of projects that I felt were really excellent, but the photo looked even better. That was a funny video you made. I need to start taking pictures of my horrendous projects and see how they look before I destroy my handiwork and start over.

I know even to try! I can’t look at Pinterest because it just makes me feel like a failure. As long as I have the “make it do” attitude, I can be happy enough without nice projects around my house, though I do admire those who can pull them off successfully.

Oh, man, laughing so hard right now because this is so totally me. Every once in a while I forget who I am and think I’ll tackle some project that actually takes an iota of artistic abiity, and quickly realize that my ability to draw stick figures does not translate to a nicely decorated anything. Thanks for the reality check to everything that is pinterest.

It happens to the best of us. I love all of your DIY posts, but it’s also good to see where some can go wrong. I’m not alone!

I enjoyed the video, Katy. I didn’t think it was that bad. Its a question of personal taste! I think we all get ideas and think hindsight is a wonderful thing. It did make me smile!

“That for all of you who see those beauuuuuutiful images on the Internet and think those people’s houses are goooooorgeous, yeah, well… not so much.”

Laughing hysterically with you, Katy. 🙂

My husband said, “well, at lest it doesn’t have little duckies on it.” That’s looking at the bright side!

Katy April 14, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Why would it have little duckies on it?

Perfection is over rated and frankly square and boring. I liked it. But if it didn’t turn out to your taste you’re absolutely right – start over.

I’d give it a day or two- sometimes the problems and imperfections magically disappear when you haven’t been staring at it for hours.

Katy, I loved your little “craft failure” confessional! I don’t think it’s terrible; maybe just not the look you were going for 🙂 You do an awesome job with so many projects I wouldn’t sweat this one, though I appreciate your sharing it with us.

sometimes overdone is just the look. . .maybe not for your decor, but I’m sure that look would translate well in a Moroccan style . . .hmm. . .bedroom?
