An Important Non-Consumer Message

by Katy on December 4, 2010 · 19 comments

Note: This video is somehow no longer available through You Tube. Sorry.

Okay, this is the weirdest freakin’ video of random somewhat hasbeen actors, musicians and athletes singing the Beatles’Β Let it Be. I am going to pretend it has something, anything everything to do with non-consumerism in order to share it with you guys.

Extra points for those who note the Portland connection, which has to do with a certain local violent ice skater who shall go nameless. πŸ˜‰

Seriously, it is bizarre. Enjoy the Norwegian subtitles!

Katy Wolk-Stanley

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without”

Okay, I figured out the non-consumer connection, which may be “do without.”

I don’t have any idea, and don’t really care.

I loved it and the Portland connection is Tonya Harding.

I thought some of the people were dead.

Some of them are, now (Leslie Nielsen) but probably not when they were filming it 😎

It’s interesting. Those people are part of each of our lives.

When I’m out and meeting people, I realize for that moment, that person is important to me and I to them. No matter how small the connection, we are connecting. Just as you’re reading this, in a small way we’re connected.

I think I have to be with someone for years and know them intimately to be connected. Surely there are deeper connections, but just the same, we can meet for a brief time and that time can be magical.

That. Rocks! Am I sad? I want to watch it again. My husband asked what I was watching: “Can’t talk. Reading subtitles.”

Look how much fun Ricki Lake is having.

Just when I thought the weird factor was done, they bring out the grown-up who as a kid played Forest Gump in the “early years” scenes! It is amazing what actors will do for money. Thanks for sharing πŸ˜€

I have to say when I was watching it two things came to mind the first one was why? and the second was that they sure did use the auto-tuner a lot!!

Um . . . . I think that now I’m more sold than ever on the value of entertaining ourselves (with our own singing, dancing, storytelling, etc) rather than outsourcing this very human need of ours to . . . . ah, professionals. Lots of joy in doing it ourselves. . . . . and lots of cost savings.

Thanks for the reinforcement on this, Katy!

I LOVED it and smiled through the whole thing. What fun seeing how some of the stars we’ve seen over the years look now. And LOVE IT that Kelly McGillis of Top Gun has let her hair go naturally gray! thanks for sharing

I noticed that too, and this was after griping about my own grey hair today.

Here is a link to watch it on AOL – it will probably only last a day or two. http://www.popeater.com/2010/12/03/let-it-be-celebrity-video/?icid=maing|main5|2|link3|29466 You can also go to youtube.com and put “gylne tider let it be” in the search and you will get it.

Enjoy!
