I stopped at Fred Meyer for milk after downloading an e-coupon to get the sale price. ($1.39/half-gallon.) I then browsed the produce clearance shelf and grabbed a $1 corn on the cob bag from the lowest shelf. I spent $3.78 on milk and five ears of corn and avoided any of the tempting aisles. Blinders on!
-
My neighbor had a few extra annuals she didn’t have room for in her garden, so she brought them over for me. I have a couple extra curb picked flowerpots, so I’ll plant them up tomorrow.
-
My small patch of raspberries are currently providing a couple handfuls of ripe berries per day, which is just about my favorite time of year. I always make the same stupid joke about them being “locally grown” when handing them to my family.
Of course my actual favorite time of year for berries is later in the summer when Oregon’s wild blackberries ripen and I’m able to pick pounds and pounds of free berries!
-
I visited with a friend today and brewed us tea from the Tetley tea bags that I always carry in my purse. This might sound odd, but I’m able to make sure I’m never more than a few minutes away from a good (and frugal) cup of tea.
-
I didn’t buy anything from Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Chick Fil-A or Hobby Lobby.
Five Frugal Things

1. We’re having hot weather so are walking early, before sunrise. This morning I grabbed a wire lid to a small animal cage that has been with a curbside dumpster bag for at least three days. I put it around my still young butternut squash plants. We had to replant them after something (possibly a rabbit) ate the sprouts from the first planting. If the dumpster is still there tomorrow I may grab some grill racks that I might be able to fashion into a plant cage. These are just items that will go to the landfill otherwise.
2. We’re eating a lot of watermelon, since a $3.99 watermelon will yield a lot of fruit.
3. I put a load of sheets and tee-shirts in the washing machine early to have less impact on the electrical grid.
4. I boiled the caress from a rotisserie chicken. I put the chicken and the broth in the freezer for future soup.
5. I am staying out of stores other than grocery stores.
1. I took a “hot” walk yesterday and picked up a bag full of litter. I also found a small bag of screws and a baby hat, both of which will go to Goodwill.
2. My faux chicken stroganoff turned out great, despite all the substitutions, and it will provide at least two more servings.
3. Major heat is making me run the AC, but I turn it off in the morning when the house is cooled, and the temperature outside is as low as it’s going to be. I enjoy the quiet, as well as the savings on my electric bill.
4. Found a dime!
5. My grandson left a power bar in my car before his family left on a three-week trip. I brought it in so the chocolate coating wouldn’t melt. Then later I ate it! I will apologize when he gets home.
@Beth W – do keep track of how often your A/C is kicking on and off after you turn it back on. It might be more frugal to just leave it on. I do admit we a) replaced all our duct work, b) replaced all doors and windows, and c) insulated before we moved in.
Your #5 – finders keepers losers weepers time. See if he remembers lol.
A frugal fail weekend
We hosted family birthday dinner (son and brother in law) on Sunday
We planned on 7 ended up with 8. Late addition of son’s coworker (golf partner) Lives in our neighborhood. So no leftovers.
However no gifts were exchanged so that was a win.
Hoping to hear about some job opportunities this week
I still consider this frugal, you hosted the dinner and didn’t go out to a fancy restaurant plus no gifts!
I’m not sure what about hosting a family dinner makes it a fail. Time spent with close family is always good.
I don’t consider it a fail either unless you really could *not* afford to host if no leftovers for one?
I’m also looking forward to some fresh blackberries.
1. We are also experiencing some very hot weather. My mom and sister came over for a dip in the pool. We floated for a while and just enjoyed being outside. Summer is so short.
2. I was looking for a way to get rid of the ducks that want to swim in my pool. They come every year and I’m always happy to see them but once the cover is off and the “pond” becomes a pool then I like them to leave or at least their poop to leave. I read you could use balls to make eyes to put in the pool but I have a large pink flamingo floaty that no one uses anymore so I threw that in there and seems to have worked. Bonus: the flamingo entertains my daughter’s dog who thinks he’s protecting us from that strange creature. This is very entertaining to me. He’s not very bright but so sweet.
3. I moved some volunteer moss rose from an empty pot to another pot that needs a little filling in.
4. I’m continuing to mow around all the patches of clover in my yard. I’m trying to let them go until they seeds are ready to spread and then I’ll mow them. I’ve been doing this for a few years now. I have quite a bit more clover which doesn’t require as much water, no fertilizer to keep it green and doesn’t need as frequent mowing.
5. I’m also avoiding all the above stores you listed.
I love what you are doing with the clover! Over the years, my parent’s yard has turned into mostly clover and moss with just a little grass mixed in. It is absolutely beautiful, and stays green late into the summer when their neighbors’ lawns have turned brown and crispy. And their neighbors all get lawn fertilizing services and water their lawns!! So my parents spend much less money than their neighbors and have a much prettier, more sustainable lawn.
Bees love clover!! Kudos to you!
For people who love summer it is so short for those of us allergic to the sun , it is soooooooooooooooooooo long !
1. Free rhubarb from my SILs neighbor.
2. Massive amount of pick my own sour cherries from nieces tree. These will go into batches of jam that make good presents plus cherry crisps all summer.
3. Deposited cardboard in free recycle bin, that’s also a community fundraiser.
4. Son brought pizza home from one job.
5. Turned air off after cooling down house to a tolerable level. Temps hit 96° and humidity was soup. It’s a luxury I’m keeping at my age, but not abusing the privilege.
I think the most delicious thing my mom ever made was batches of sour cherry jam. unbeatable. mmmm.
I had sour cherry pierogi at an Eastern European restaurant in Chicago, (perhaps Ukrainian). Wonderful!
I am growing a drawf sour cherry tree in a pot. So hard to find sour cherries here for sale, so I grow my own. Same for Rhode Island Greening apples, also hard to find but the best pie apple bar non.
We had a Montmorency cherry tree at our old house – beating the birds was always a challenge. Apples I didn’t fool with – the wildlife enjoyed them (as did the wasps, especially the yellow apples).
@Rose – will have to check out Rhode Island Greening apples, I’ve not heard of them before.
Humidity was soup- brillant
Raspberries are my favourite fruit! We’re also harvesting about two handfuls each day at the moment, loving it! They taste sooooo much better than store-bought ones.
* LOTS of carrots in the last Lidl Waste Not box. Made carrot and tomato soup to use them up. Also threw in a few roasted peppers (from a jar). So good!
* My pyrex casserole dish randomly and suddenly cracked (it basically split down the middle!) when I was heating up something. I got it in a charity shop about 7 years ago. I was going to get another pyrex one but then saw a stoneware one on Vinted and decided to go for that one instead. Hopefully it will survive the shipping! One really does need time though to shop used, it took about an hour of searching on different platforms to find what I want.
* A friend gave us some firewood as they are no longer using their fireplace.
* I got a few black eyed Susan plants from a friend and passed one of them on to a different friend as there were too many for the number of pots I have available at the moment.
* Got a free NordVPN trial with a Revolut Premium trial.
It is SO hot and humid here. I shouldn’t complain because our this is our normal summer weather.
1. Used fans and kept the curtains closed to help keep the house cooler. A.C. on 78 during the day to help the electric bill stay low.
2. Coupon for $25 off an oil change. I bought the quicky oil change guys a box of “Bomb Pops” (my favorite childhood popsicle)to help them beat the
heat. – Bomb pops were on sale for $2.50 @ the Kroger next to the oil change place.
3. They tried to up-sell new cabin filter and wiper blades. Uh…no thanks, but thanks for letting me know. I can do these myself.
4. Outside early to cut and weed wack and beat the heat. $60 saved. I am more reliable (but a LOT slower) than my previous yard guy. Besides, free exercise .
5. Used airfryer to prepare meals and bake a cake. This was the 1st time I used the baking function for a cake. The oven does turn out a prettier product, but the house stayed cooler.
Stay frugal my friends.
That was very thoughtful of you to get them some popsicles
That is very kind of you to buy the oil change crew popsicles! They must’ve been so surprised and happy!
Hi I love this and am trying to learn from the great posts. I’m from UK so hope I’m allowed to join
We have lots of charity shops but no one really puts things on the pavements for people to take.
My best frugal tip is if friends or family ask what I would like for birthdays Xmas mother’s Day etc I always ask for food or drink (a homemade cake or tea/ coffee, I don’t drink alcohol)
I think that’s a great idea – you get something you like and could use, yet it won’t be around forever…and the gift giver knows it will be appreciated and enjoyed.
Looking forward to seeing more of your comments, Sue! We don’t have any free piles around us, but every time I’ve put something at our curb, it’s been picked up, thankfully.
Sue, welcome! I also prefer consumables for gifts as I need nothing else at this point in my life.
We love the UK here!
Kudos to you, Sue J.! It is extremely frugal not to drink alcohol, plus you don’t pickle your liver — and you don’t end up wrapping your car around a telephone pole! (Although your fellow UK resident, Andy Capp of the comic strip, would not approve. Here in Texas, we read him, too.)
We have blackberries all along the south end of our property — I can’t wait until they ripen! I always make a ton of preserves. Blackberry-mint sauce is lovely over a pork tenderloin.
1) Today I’m building a raised garden planter box for my rescued blueberry bushes, using leftover wood from a previous project. This way I can keep their soil acidic enough without affecting the soil in the surrounding bed.
2) My partner is going into the woods next to our house to forage a few cups of the salmonberries, which were tempting us with their crimson beauty yesterday evening. Depending on the size of the bounty, we will have a pie, a cobbler, or berries and cream for dessert tonight.
3) We are eating primarily from the pantry this week. Tonight I am making mushroom tagliatelle, but I am tossing some leftover creamed peas, frozen from a previous dinner, into the sauce.
4) I mixed up a batch of the no-knead NYT bread to be baked tomorrow morning for tomorrow’s dinner.
5) We were craving an afternoon out yesterday, so we made up sandwiches and went down to the port for a picnic and a long walk. A few people were flying the really big kites, which are always fun to watch.
I didn’t join the microwave cake mug movements of some years ago, so I was rather skeptical when I tried a recipe for a rhubarb-peach cake mug.
I had only rhubarb, called for 2 tablespoons. It was very good! I also made one with approximately fifteen sour cherries from our tree.
So that sort of thing is another berry option.
1. I’m having an electronic issue with my car. I combed through my warranty to figure out if it is covered – it should be. I also need an oil change. So I’m currently writing this from the waiting room of the dealership’s service center. I usually take my car to my neighborhood mechanic (we know the owners and it is walkable) for oil changes, but since I need warranty work done, I figured I would take care of 2 issues at once here at the dealership service center. Free coffee and cold water!
2. We held out as long as possible before putting in our window AC unit in the bedroom, but we have a heat warning for the next few days and dogs at home. I do close all of the blinds and keep the AC at a reasonable level and keep it in eco mode. We don’t need an ice box! Just cool enough that our dogs are safe during the day and we can sleep at night.
3. Not sure how long this appointment at the dealership is going to take, so I made sure to bring lunch with me that I would normally bring to my office. Saves me from having to spend money and eat out of the vending machine.
4. Wanted to get out this weekend with a friend, so we took our SUPs to a state park kayak launch and paddled around for a few hours to beat the heat. We packed a picnic so we weren’t tempted to buy lunch. We did pay the $6 park entry fee, but I am happy to support our NYS park system.
5. I need a new crochet pattern bc the one I found free online was frustrating. I thought about buying a book, but then remembered the library. Went on our library’s website and found 6 books that look promising. Put them on hold and I’ll be able to pick them up this week and figure out which has a pattern I like!
The afghan I am crocheting to enter into 3 local fairs is a chevron stripe with a twist. Not all chevrons are the same size. It is a very irregular pattetn and I am using shades of blue, purple, and seafoam green with a touch of white (think “ocean waves.”) Wish I could post a picture.
Your library may have parks passes available if they have a ‘library of things’! My library has a state and one or two county passes. The librarian told me that the county ones usually have a wait list but since we don’t have many local state parks I was able to snag it and take it when we did some traveling further north and saved ourselves a $10 fee!
1. I reorganized my towel/ medicine closet. I got rid of some old stained towels. I cut up a few for rags.
2. Our pool got a hole over a rough seem and we were unable to patch it. Our in-laws yard isn’t ready to put up their pool so they borrowed it to us for the summer.
3. Took advantage of the heat wave we’re currently experiencing by drying towels outside on my drying rack.
4. Used a chipotle coupon for buy 1 entree get one free for my daughter and I.
5. Gas prices here have spiked to $3.70 so I will be sure to stop at traders joes on my way home for a few things I need as it is right on my way.
Frugal-ish: on vacation my husband bumped by car into a concrete pole in a parking garage causing a basketball size dent and awful scrap. My car is 12 years old and only worth $2000 so my husband used a can of gray car paint we had leftover from repairing some rust on the car to at least make the scrap look better lol.
Dent and scrape wouldn’t bother me. In fact, I would even drive that car Johnny Cash “built” in his song “One Piece at a Time” without hesitation. I am about function, not asthetics. As long as it’s reliable, I don’t care what it looks like.
Frugal thing, trust your instincts edition:
Ollie’s Outlet had sent me a card entitling me to their private sale night, in which everything in the store would be at least 15% off (summer items, 20%). Earlier, I had gone to scout out what kind/how much vinyl plank flooring they had in a color that’d go with the front room’s LVP (which was from Lowe’s, on clearance); and it appeared they only had two boxes.
I decided at the last minute to go check it out again. So armed with measurements, a sample scrap from the front room and the necessary coupon, I went after my store shift.
Voila! They had restocked the color I’d wanted and had scads of boxes. So I bought enough for the once-and-future computer room (formerly the ex-roommate’s bedroom) and had them load it up. I saved between 80 and 90 dollars by using the coupon! It was even worth standing in line to check out, despite a Black Friday-sized crowd.
The OO flooring dept. guys helped me load my car with 11 boxes of planks, and it made my Kia so heavy, I almost feared having a problem like they had in the Jersey Boys movie. (The scene where the teens were trying to rob a drugstore, and carried the safe to the back alley and loaded it up in their car’s trunk. The weight made the front of the car lift high into the air, and the guys got caught. Fortunately, no such thing happened with my vinyl planks! But the clerk said the heaviest thing in a Kia Forte was the engine….OMG, did I buy a cheaply made car?)
My neighbor’s stepson stopped by and quoted me a fair hourly rate, and he unloaded all the heavy boxes from my car. So I’m about to get a nice new computer room all done!
Those high value Ollie’s coupons are totally the way to go if you need a big ticket item.
Yes, and if you are a member of “Ollie’s Army,” every dollar you spend earns you so many points. I imagine that the flooring got me a lot of points. They periodically send you coupons with the % off amount based on your point spread, and when I get another good coupon, I plan to hit them for some more vinyl flooring.
Of course, I will keep my eye out for sales elsewhere, but it looks like I just might do the entire bedroom wing with Ollie’s “urban farmhouse” Color Planks.
1) Started a new book from the library, The Dorito Effect, very interesting if also upsetting given all the health issues in America that are tied to the standard American diet.
2) We usually get takeout once a week on the weekend. We skipped it this week though, my husband wanted to bbq on Saturday and on Sunday I made lasagna at the kids request (they had just watched the Garfield movie which is what triggered the request) so that saved about $50-$70 given what takeout has been costing us lately!
3) I made tzatziki and lime crema using some cashew yogurt. Both turned out delicious so glad to know cashew yogurt is a good replacement for dairy in these recipes.
4) I organized my spices and made a new list of what I have and stuck it inside the cabinet door for reference. I then placed an order with Penzeys to fill in a few things. Penzeys is not frugal but I did have a gift card and I do like the quality of their spices (and the company itself)
5) I’m a pretty neglectful gardener but I am managing to produce some strawberries and radishes right now, and the tomato plants look healthy,so hoping they produce eventually too.
Lisa, that book looks super interesting. Thanks for putting it on my radar. I now have it on hold at my library.
1. I listed a pair of shoes that never fit comfortably on my Buy Nothing group. I had a taker within a few hours and she messaged me that they fit perfectly. Win-win.
2. Now that we’ve been in our house for 2 1/2 years, I’ve started a grand decluttering which has led me to create some new ebay listings. No sales yet but fingers crossed.
3. The Denver Nature and Science Museum was free to all – no tickets required – in honor of Juneteenth. We took our grandson and had a fun time letting him lead us all around at his pace. It also helped that it was 98 degrees that day so a fantastic air conditioned indoor day.
4. Our son had tickets to go see a comedian so we kept our grandson overnight. We took him to our neighborhood swimming pool – the pass is included in our HOA – and then enjoyed dinner on the grill and a rousing game of backyard soccer.
5. My husband has been playing golf at a small par 3 course near our house weekly. His golf shoes came apart – one of the cleats fell off – so he watched a You Tube video to fix them. That man is not just going to say “I’ll buy a new pair of shoes” willingly. Since they are practically brand new – well, 10 years old but for him that’s practically brand new 🙂
It’s a heat waaaaaaaaaaaave! Hope everyone is staying cool and comfortable. RIP to my mint plant, which decided that torrential thunderstorms then 100 degree heat were not optimal growing conditions.
1. Got home from a wedding weekend out of town last night and made pasta to eat at home. Takeout avoided.
2. Found a dress for said wedding at TJ Maxx after my home wardrobe failed me. Very relieved to not have to pay full price for something that fit (why are all occasion outfits $200 these days? Yeesh!)
3. Painted my own nails, keeping me out of the nail salon for yet another event.
4. It is 11:45. The AC is not on yet. I am counting that as a frugal thing this week.
5. Eating my bulk yogurt for breakfast. Ran out of walnuts to put in it for some texture. Found a sealed bag of cinnamon pistachios in the back of the pantry – on their own they sound terrible but in yogurt add nice flavor and crunch!
5.
LB, years ago, when clothing was made in America, $200 was reasonable for a fancy dress. Purchasing quality clothing was frugal. I didn’t mind wearing an outfit more than once with the same people seeing it.
Kathy – indeed! I prefer rewearing outfits, but unfortunately body fluctuations got me good this time. I am hoping this new dress will make the rounds for many events to come!
LB, personally I am waiting for the Annie Hall look to come back en vogue. She threw all kinds of things together — vests, men’s shirts, long skirts, hats — and it all looked so amazing! Even better: most of it was thrifted.
Me too!!
1. Scheduled four get-togethers within a few days of each other so that I only had to clean the house once, maximized cocktail/mocktail fixings (like limes, open bottles of tonic water and wine), and made food that could be served over several days (like strawberry shortcake). Didn’t realize heavy whipping cream is so pricey!
2. In a pinch, I turned over a glass lid from a Corningware casserole dish to use as a slightly elevated serving plate on an appetizer buffet.
3. Brought a book and several CDs to Half-Price Books and received a crisp $5 bill.
4. Sister treated me to lunch because she is a generous and loving person.
5. Enjoyed radishes plucked from our outdoor pot. The seeds are old but still producing.
1) My backyard raspberries are having their best year yet- I have pick a full dry quart off of them. Plus neighbors are letting pick their cherries!
2) Bought bread at the farmer’s market from my favorite baker. Supporting microbusinesses can be frugal in creating a sustainable local economy.
3) Went to the dented veggie store and bought frozen bacon, frozen chicken cheeses, mangoes, and quarts of cold brew coffee concentrate. Incredible savings with everything. Including my own garden produce, meals are $2-3/each. I eat very well indeed and am grateful.
4) My work provides a $50 monthly subsidy for gym memberships. I currently work outr at home, so am weighing getting a gym membership or continue with the convienence with at home workouts.
5) I did not break a treaty or cause people to panic.
1. I FINALLY planted the amaryllis bulb that one of the Amish mothers on my school van route gave me at Easter! At least it wasn’t dead – it was growing in the plastic zipper bag! Plants see me as “the Grim Reaper.” I look at them. They die. Anyway, now that it is finally potted, it has green leaves coming out of the middle. I remembered I had one of those watering globes that you fill with water and stick in the soil left from a previously deceased plant. Dug that out and put that in. So far, so good.
2. Temps in the 90’s with heat indexes in the triple digits for 3 days, then thunderstorms forecast for 4 days after that. Ripping sleeves off of some old t-shirts in “Larry the Cable Guy” fashion to wear around the house to stay cool.
3. DH and I took my DS for groceries and errands. She took us to both breakfast AND lunch.
4. Was going to stop at a local ice cream stand as a treat on our way home. They’re closed on Mondays (didn’t know that until we stopped). Stopped and bought a half gallon of ice cream for less than what we would have paid for 2 cones. Had a dish when we got home. Still have more for later.
5. Donated $1 to the local Children’s hospital at WallyWorld and got a little rubber duck for my donation. Picked a duck wearing a sailor’s suit. The couple our daughter lives with are both retired Navy, and the wife will be 60 on 7/4. Sending it to her as her birthday “gift.”
I don’t have any sources for free blackberries or raspberries here in FL. But I am enjoying free mangos from a local neighborhood. They fall from the trees onto the street. If you do not pick them up soon after they fall, the birds or varmints get them. I have some green ones ripening on the windowsill.
Frugal Fail: my condo had a water leak from upstairs. I have homeowner’s insurance which I am hoping will cover the damage. I was upset when it first happened but what can I do? Get it repaired & move on. At least my property did not burn to the ground like in LA.
1. It’s bulk waste collection today, so I went out early to see if any goodies had been put out on the curb. Started on foot but had to go and get my car as I found a wooden shelving unit and a set of plastic storage drawers. Both will go in the garage to get things organized. Also found a box with two brand new Nike baseball pants still with tags. Will put those on eBay.
2. Phoned the dentist and managed to get my appointment changed to the same time/day as my husband’s. Means we only have to make one trip.
3. Peeled and sliced some apples that are bruised and looking sad to put in the slow cooker and have as dessert. I like to top stewed apple with McVities Digestive biscuits and cream. Graham crackers also work, but McVities is best.
4. Made tea from my free hotel teabag collection (husband has a lot of business stays and has instructions to grab them for me as he’s a coffee guy).
5. Had a Navy shower where you get yourself wet then turn off the water, lather yourself with soap and shampoo, then put the water on again to rinse off). It saves water and energy.
In the 90s we lived in a village where water was 18 cents a gallon and delivered once a week. (No piped water in the village, all delivered). We learned to live with showering every other day. On shower days we would get up together. One of us would step in the shower long enough to get wet and then move to the back and then the other would get in and get wet. By then the first one in the shower was soaped up so we would exchange places. The soaped up one would rinse off and get out and then the other one would be ready to wash off the soap and get out. We were both able to shower in as long as it took for Frankie Valli to belt out “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. This was before my illness was so severe that I needed a wheelchair and a shower to accommodate it. Amazing what you can do when you are young.
My Dad always wanted us to Navy shower! Wow a memory. He’d knock/bang on the door and and I’d holler I’m deep conditioning my hair and shaving my legs… Didn’t seem to alter his expectation.
Had a court summons today: failure to license a dog. Look, I forgot, sheesh. Saw the lawyer I hired for tenant eviction in court who asked me what I was doing there. Told him, “I shot a man just to watch him die.” I had to pay a $25 fine for my misdeed. Well it was cheaper than everyone else’s fines.
Son wanted chicken soup with the remains of last night’s delicious roast chicken. I said no, it’s hot and I don’t feel like it. Daughter made a batch of pizza dough so we will have imitation Costco chicken bakes: dough, mozz, chicken, bacon, Caesar dressing.
Handyman finished fixing our two outdoor showers. He is SO much cheaper than a plumber.
Uh…too tired to think really.
Rose, I hope you shot that man in Reno. (We’re big Johnny Cash fans here.)
🙂
My errands today included going by the oh so expensive grocery store that houses our credit union, as I needed cash to buy gas. There’s almost nothing that’s a good deal at this store, but it does have a marked down produce shelf and I spied a tray of bananas in near perfect condition for 71 cents and pounced.
Gasoline went up 19 cents overnight here — gee, that happens when some fool starts a war, ya think? So I figured it was best to put some gas in my car rather now than later.
Aldi sadly had no 50% off deals today, but I did get two rolls of their frozen turkey to make kibble topper for the dogs at $2.19 per roll.
Found safe and sound in the back of my car the small watermelon I thought had accidentally been left at the store on Thursday. So there’s $3.52 that was not wasted. Cleaned my own house, pulled my own weeds, and bathed the dogs myself during a no spend weekend at home.
Hung out laundry.
Cooked from scratch. Enjoyed new potatoes, onions, and lettuce from our garden. The lettuce may ruin with the heat.
Ran chainsaw. (A real one, not some chrome man-toy.) Preparing to build sheep fence. I build my own fence and it saves around half the cost of hiring it done. I am looking forward to having sheep again.
Finally built a shelf over my dresser to address the clutter issue with my make-up. Used reclaimed wood. Had to stretch my latex paint with a little water to have enough. Learned that trick from my dear MIL who was frugal to the max! Touched up some places on the walls and closet door while the paint brush was handy.
Meat chickens arrived. Most will be sold to a local farm to fork event but 20 or so will go in my freezer. Luckily at this stage, they like the heat.
The whole family went frog “hunting” at our farm pond. DS 6 loves frogs. He catches them with a butterfly net, holds them, remarks how big they are, and then we turn them loose. Lots of giggles and little boy excitement!
Soaked pintos for loaded BBQ beans for a family birthday cookout with my family. Cooked in the crock pot. A stealth went over when we were at my folks, so creepy. Sunday…..after we had heard what went down overnight.
At one time we had Baby Southdown Sheep. I swear they are the cutest sheep on the planet, with their tiny size and pug faces.
Oh yes! They are adorable!!
I will prbly go with hair sheep. I have no desire to shear 🙂
We have hair sheep. American black bellies
Great moms, they are.
The heat wave has been rough in middle TN. I have covered all the windows with extra table cloths and towels and have noticed a huge difference. My husband has been laid off since November (upcoming second interview for great job soon, fingers crossed this is the one), so we have been keeping thermostat at 79-80 and we are a-okay.
Been line drying clothes for a few months now and can’t believe it took me this long to start doing it!
I got a bag of three bell peppers for $1 in the markdowns which is always a steal and got some nice deals on cheese at Aldi.
Getting lots of summer squash and cucumbers out of the garden and some nice basil. Concerned about the water bill, but I’m just doing my best. The fresh garden cucumbers are sooo worth it. Working hard to come up with dinner ideas that don’t heat up the house which I find pretty fun anyway.
F I am actually from Newcastle upon Tyne where Andy capp originated. When I was young there were so many northern men just like him… thankfully they are more or less extinct now
I am so impressed by how much cooking everyone seems to do…I’m more of a sandwich maker but I am trying to meal plan and batch bake more often
