Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the meal of Thanksgiving. That single forkful that includes turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy is the apex of perfection.

Mmm . . . .

I am a particular fan of the leftovers. To be able to eat my favorite meal, without the crushing chore of mounds of greasy dishes weighing down on me.

These are not leftovers that run any risk of getting pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten.

No siree-bob.

I’m like a tryptophan junkie, looking to score morning, noon and night.

“Just give me the turkey, why you gotta’ be such a downer?”

But this year we are going to my brother-in-law’s house for dinner, which means — no leftovers!

So I think I may prepare a bonus Thanksgiving meal over the weekend, just to feed my addiction.

And maybe, just maybe I can trick the kids into cleaning out that greasy, nasty roasting pan.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Although we live in Ontario, my husband asked me (an American) if we were going to celebrate American Thanksgiving. “No, everyone is working.” “But what about the turkey? You’re not working – you could make turkey.” I pointed out that it was too late (Wednesday evening) to get a turkey thawed for the next day. Never mind that I had just made roast chicken and stuffing. It wasn’t a turkey. And the long Advent fast is about the begin (we’re very traditional Christians) so he’s not going to see turkey until Christmas. That should make it all the better.

I’m a big believer in planned leftovers. If you’re going to bother to cook it, it should last, darn it!
