I love the Olympics.
I’m normally not a televised sports fan, but when the Olympics roll around I just can’t get enough. I think it might be the individual athlete vs. team mentality.
I’m not into rooting for a team just because they’re from a certain city or university.
It’s about the individual person.
It’s sport in its purest form.
Yes, the endorsement deals are in place, but can easily be ignored.
(Even the McDonald’s ones that feature healthy athletes bizarrely chowing down on McChicken burgers.)
My husband’s grandfather ran the steeplechase in the 1928 Olympics, (Johnny Weismuller’s year — Tarzan!) We have his uniform, (lovely thick, thick wool) and assorted books that were only given to the athletes. So maybe it’s a family thing.
So I’ll be spending way too much time watching TV in the next few weeks.
But I’ll be ignoring the commercials, even if Visa is the only card accepted at the Olympics games.
