The Food Scavenger Strikes Again

Note the two types of pasta? The last tenant at my mother's rental cottage left behind two half-used boxes of pasta, (penne and lasagna) so I brought them home and combined the two. Sure, I had to break the lasagna noodles into pieces, but it was well worth the effort. 40% of food is wasted in the U.S. You too can make a pledge to cut food waste in your household. Oh!!! I’ve never thought about breaking up lasagna noodles to have just as a pasta dish. I guess it would be kind of like ravioli without any filling? Great job using up the pasta!

I remember well combining different cereals into a box to be used for breakfast or as a snack mix…………..

My last tenant at my summer house left me six bottles of wine and half a striped bass her husband bought. BOO-YEAH! I don’t like fish, so I gave it to my cleaning lady. The wine is all mine, though!

DH and I have been working on reducing our food waste by being more diligent in our menu planning and using leftovers for lunches, etc. I love the mixing of the pastas…it reminds me of my dear MIL who would, once in a blue moon, combine all the remnants in a mix she called “Gotcha”… sometimes you have to time the addition to the water, but that is surely not difficult.

Anything my chickens dont eat gets composted 🙂

In Italy those broken pieces of lasagna are very common and usually tossed with a lovely herb sauce or even bolognese.

I made a pasta salad for a potluck using up little odds and ends of various pastas. Everyone thought I did it just to look pretty!

Hi Katy, I enjoy following your lessons in living on less, am trying to do the same, although it is difficult by times. I have used two types of pasta on several occasions, will think of the lasagna next time!

There’s always a way to use things, if you set your mind to it and do not consider waste as an option. It doesn’t always need to look perfect, but I think your pasta looks pretty tasty!
