52 Weeks, 52 Letters Project — Week Five

I just wrote my latest letter in the 52 Weeks, 52 Letters Project, and let’s just say, well . . .  perfect is the enemy of the good. Because yes, this letter was not my finest effort. But if I had waited until I could pen the world’s greatest letter then there would have been no letter. The handwriting was scrappy, (my hand kept cramping up) the flow was choppy and I thought of some other information to include after I had already sealed the envelope.

The letter was to my cousin Lynn who lives in Pittsburgh. This particular cousin was already almost an adult by the time I was born, and I always thought she was so cool and pretty. (Okay, that’s my eight-year-old self sneaking out) She did bring her family out to Portland a few years back, and I really, really enjoyed the time we spent together. Her teenage daughters were also cool and pretty, (no surprise) and despite less than stellar beach accommodations we all seemed to have a great time.

It’s been hard to write letters lately, as my mother has been going through a cancer scare and my mind hasn’t been on the task. Luckily, we just found out yesterday that our fears were not realized, and we can all breathe deeply again. She did have to undergo major surgery in order to rule out the cancer, and will be in the hospital for at least a few more days. January has been an extremely difficult month for my family, and we’re looking forward to a drama-free February.

And maybe, just maybe I’ll be the recipient of a letter or two.

Are you keeping up with the 52 Weeks, 52 Letters Project? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

This week I am writing a letter to my daughter. She turns 6 today. I usually pen something for the blog, but I am going to give her a bona fide letter. Let’s see what she says when she wakes up and read it.

I am so glad your mom is going to be OK. Surgery is not a great option but still…

I’m glad your mom is going to be ok, prayers for a speedy recovery.
I have received one letter in return and an email of thanks. I’ve really enjoyed this commitment. I do admit this week has been very busy, and I almost wish I could use my computer to write and print out this week’s letter. I am resisting that urge!!

I am writing my 3rd letter this week (I came to this project 2 weeks late) and I am enjoying it. I almost forgot this week b/c of sickness and snow but remember this morning….I love to see your creativeness by adding a tea bag or something to your letter. Thanks for the inspiration.

Also God is a wonderful God and I am thankful your mom is cancer free. My mom had it about 15 months ago and we are thankful for every good doctors follow up.

SO glad for the good news on your Mom! I know from personal experience that when a parent falls ill everything else comes to a screeching halt.

I’ve written four letters for the year but have only blogged about the first three. I’ve been keeping up with the letters, then procrastinating on the blogging. 😉

I find it a little scary that my hand cramps up when i write now. I write a yearly wrap up in a journal and cant do the whole thing in one sitting. Think of all the writing we used to do in school!

I sent out my 5th letter on Wednesday! This one should be interesting since I’ll get to see if it is proudly displayed at her house in a week or so, haha 🙂
