A Chain of Inspiration

Today I want to share with you what I am calling a “Chain of Inspiration.” I constructed my kitchen island based on my friend Sara’s version, and now my next-door-neighbors have built one based on ours. The part that I love is how no two are the same. They all have different dimensions and serve slightly different purposes. Yet all are based on one another.

None of us come up with fresh ideas without input from the world around us. We find inspiration in our environment, yet we put our own spin on what we do based on our particular needs, supplies and tastes.

I just love how the three of us all have different versions of the same theme. Perhaps someday we’ll get them all together for a playdate.

Sara's kitchen island, which also seats two.

My kitchen island. Big, utilitarian and used practically all day, every day.

My neighbor's kitchen island. Friends of theirs were removing a Rosewood kitchen counter, which they snapped up and sawed to the length needed for their purposes. Isn't it gorgeous?

What a wonderful “chain of inspiration”! And I am (still) drooling over your island. Gorgeous, useful, and inexpensive. What could be better?!

Are you describing me or the kitchen island? 😉

Why both, of course!

Hah! Your version is exactly like the one I made for my own kitchen. Had to get a bigger one recently, but I now use it for crafting.

Hey, I recognize that toaster oven that STILL needs cleaning! Love it, Katy! I also made an island for our backyard area – an old cart with a piece of marble from The ReBuilding Center. Of course, it’s a bit rusty these days…wonder why?

I never thought of turning an kitchen island into a seating & table, that’s a fab idea, thank you so much.

Hmmm, a kitchen island on WHEELS! Now THAT is a useful idea!

I have a kitchen that is awkward beyond belief. (The previous owners took a small, old fashioned kitchen and renovated into an even less-usa ble space. I have to assume that they NEVER cooked, which is the only thing that can explain the “design” decisions they made.) Anyway, without getting into the details of why my kitchen is a design disaster, I am now thinking that a moveable island that can be pushed against a wall when I actually need kitchen access to my dining room (don’t ask – the rooms flow together in ways I can’t explain) might be just the way to go!

Thanks for the inspiration!

Okay, not only is your kitchen island nearly identical to mine, but I also store my white kitchen aid stand mixer and white food processor on the bottom shelf of it. Ha!
