be the pink shoes

In a world where the pressure to conform is mighty, I present to you this message:

“Be the pink shoes.”

Make your life choices without fear of The Joneses, and you’ll discover freedom.

Katy Wolk-Stanley

I am..practically! I am wearing Birkenstocks that are the closed toe kind that no one wears anymore! I got them at a yard sale brand new for $20. I wear them with my scrubs( I work in triage so I don’t stand for long periods) and people comment on them all the time. ” I have not saw those shoes in years” or ” Are those what I think they are?”. I don’t care because I like them and wouldn’t pay full price when they were popular so there are my pink shoes.

I am just plain worn brown Birkenstocks. However, I was inspired by Katy and instead of replacing my very old, 10 + years, worn down Birkenstocks just took them to a cobbler and had the cork cracks fixed and the worn soles recovered. They have many more years left!

Hooray for almost infinitely fixable Birks!

Would you be able to take a screen shot and send it to me at nonconsumer@comcast.net? There should be nothing new.

Thanks!

I have them too when I’m on the tablet, but not on the regular computer… wird.

Me too. I am in England and keep getting “London South Bank University” ads appearing on my iPad plus Duette blinds ads.

I LOVE this! It is important to live authentically. Only then can one find true happiness. BTW, I own pink shoes. 🙂

I’m the teal blue flip-flops with leopard print. 😉

Perfect message, Katy. Most of the ladies I work with think I’m beyond weird. I don’t like to shop, especially at the Mall. Instead, if I need something I go to the Thrift stores or the Pawn shop. Black Friday just means “shopper’s plague” to me. I’m perfectly fine not fitting in.

I love this. 🙂

I think a lot of times frugal people can be shamed for their choices. It’s nice to remember that it’s okay to be a special little nonconformist snowflake. 🙂

Those are sure some bright pink shoes!

I cut my curly hair into a fluffy layered cut when all my high school friends were ironing their hair straight and wearing it long and parted down the middle. When a few girls followed my example and cut their hair in the same exact cut, I grew mine back out. I was the only girl who wore tan lace up work boots (and I lived on a farm, so they were truly my work boots) with my jeans to school in those days. I am absolutely not a rebel or rule-breaker, but I never wanted to be afraid to do my own thing, either. So I don’t mind being frugal, when others around me aren’t. And I get such good support on this site, it gets even easier to do.

I am three years in to wearing sparkly FitFlops “Sliders” – not sure if they are available in the US, but designed ergonomically. Fantastically comfortable, but (and only three years old!) people at work have commented on “how much wear you’re getting out of them” – code for ” still wearing those things after all this time??”

I intend to buy mini sparkly bits to glue on if needed in the future. Boo hiss to the nay-sayers.
