I’ve been writing The Non-Consumer Advocate since 2008, and it’s been an amazing ride, and for the most part it’s been a labor of love. I made a decision early on that I would not prioritize having the blog be very profitable, as that goal would contradict my message to minimize purchases and step away from a consumer lifestyle. Yes, I work with two different advertising networks to cover expenses, but have declined the daily offers I get for sponsored posts, sponsored links and general advertising.
I often joke that I could quit my job if I started a blog that accepted all the advertising offers that I receive for The Non-Consumer Advocate.
With the advent of two kids in college at the same time, the time has come to prioritize any and all income opportunities, which brings me to my big news:
The Non-Consumer Advocate is welcoming a new corporate partners! No I haven’t sold the blog, but the daily posts will each be sponsored by different companies that support the non-consumer lifestyle.
Sponsor #1:
Home Goods. With home as a haven, why not redecorate as often as you change your mood?
Sponsor #2:
Bank of America. From credit cards to fee-tastic bank accounts, Bank of America is America’s financial institution!
Sponsor #3:
H&M. We live in a global economy, so why not look to our planet’s most vulnerable workers to stitch our clothing? Clothing falls apart after a single wearing? Worry not, as replacement garments cost less than a cup of coffee!
I am very excited to be working with these forward thinking companies!

You got me. I read this and immediately thought that this sucks, and I guess some people will sell out for a buck. Thank goodness it’s a joke. Goodwill would be more of your sponsor style.
Ha! Yes, you had me too. I loathe BAC, that would have been a deal breaker!
I was not in on the joke until I read the words “fee-tastic bank accounts.” Good one, Katy!
Oh my!!! For a couple of seconds I was feeling upset and a little mad at you! How could you….really…how wasteful! I actually felt betrayed! Haha it was good though I am happy you are the Katy I think I know.
This was my reaction too – glad I don’t have to be disappointed in Katy!
As soon as I saw Home Goods I said “no way.” 🙂
Hahahahahahahah!
Oh, Katy! You tricky rabbit!
By the time I got to H&M, I was thinking, “no! I have to unsubscribe from Katy’ s blog!”
SO very glad I can keep reading your blog and learning!
Oh my gosh, I’m such a sucker, almost fell for it! I was especially disappointed in the B of A sponsorship. Lol You got me good! Haha
You got me there for a second!!
Ha! You had me for a second, till I got to H&M. Up to that point I was thinking, “I’m not going to read this blog any more” and then after H&M I realized you got me! 🙂
You almost made me throw up. I’m reading this on April 2…..
Wow! I was so scared for a minute there!! Whew! Good one 😉
You had me until H&M. 🙂
I love the nope cat.
You crack me up Katy!!! 🙂 Why not redecorate as often as you change your mood. LOL!!
Katy even if it were real, you put such a positive spin on it, I would have agreed with you!
I think you’re the only one!
haha, you got me. I believed you until I read who the sponsors were, then I thought there must be a catch. Aprils Fools!
I admire your stance on turning away advertisers that are not aligned with your beliefs. You are very inspiring! 🙂
Katy – I was so disappointed when I initially read this – selective reading because I recently had the worst customer service dealings with one of the 4 you listed. So it wasn’t until today (April 3) that I decided to read the comments and see how other readers felt about this. Imagine my shock and huge relief to see that this was a joke and that your integrity remains untarnished. You have made such a difference to so many of us. Thank you!
Sorry about that. You need to remember to don your cape of skepticism on April 1st!
