Five Things That Make Me Happy & One Thing That Pisses Me Off

Green Machine!

Five Things That Make Me Happy:

1) Reading and hearing about the soccer game between Mt Tabor Soccer Club’s Green Machine and Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers. This was a Make-a-Wish Foundation event between an eight-year-old boy’s team and Portland’s popular soccer team. It was attended by more than 3000 fans and treated like a real game. Sadly, I had to work, but my husband Dale was front and center screaming, chanting and rooting for The Green Machine. Although he was not directly involved with the planning of the game, he is on the board of Mt Tabor Soccer Club, and a lot of the connections he’s forged through the years were. Portland soccer fans and The Timbers really came through on this one.

2) Being told a story by one of my co-workers about a conversation between her three-year-old daughter and another little kid at the park :

Girl: “Do you have any brothers and sisters?

Boy: “I got an older brother and we’re getting a baby from China.”

Girl: “Well yeah, all babies come from vagina!”

Gotta love kids who understand the human body and know the correct names!

3) Finding six matching glass food storage containers at Goodwill. I always keep an eye out for nice glass food storage when I thrift, and this has been intensified since I started doing the Zero Waste Challenge. However, the one from here and one from there-ness can lead to a disjointed aesthetic, so I was giddy appropriately pleased to come across six $1.99 matching jars at Goodwill. (To say I am a “cheap date” would be an understatement.)

4)  Pretty much everything about the DIY Network show “Rehab Addict.”  Living in my own never ending fixer-upper rehab project pretty much requires constant inspiration. And I am super-duper enjoying watching old episodes through On Demand. With a focus on fixing instead of replacing, selling instead of trashing and finding new uses for old household supplies, Nicole Curtis is my kind of woman!

5) Looking forward to using up our current stash of Costco cat litter. I learned that Petco sells scoop-your-own cat litter, and that there’s a location not too far from our house. Although I will have to buy the initial plastic container, I’ll be able to fill it from their bulk bin afterwards. The huge and thick plastic bags from Costco have always been a thorn in my side, so I’m happy to have found a Zero Waste solution.

One Thing That’s Pissing Me Off:

1) Nothing. I worked the last two days and and happily relaxing at home today after an embarrassingly long night of sleep. Life is good.

Five things that make me happy and one thing that pisses me off.
1) I got a coupon e mailed to me for free eggs and vegetables. Love that word FREE,
2) I am staring to feel like I may live again.
3) my granddaughter said her first stance….Mu daughter asked her who she was talking to on her play phone. She said. I talk puppy.
4) My sister told me the number for a inexpensive Gardner….I’m just to old with too many issues for that kind of work.

The one thing that pisses me off…..someone putting an empty box of something back on the pantry…or using the last of something and not telling…..

1) The iced coffee I made by saving the leftover brewed coffee that otherwise would have gone down the drain, just right on this hot afternoon

2) my run this morning

3) I’m also excited to find out about the bulk kitty litter. There’s an “Unleashed” about 6 blocks from us.

4) my partner working very hard to keep the leak in the water heater from dripping through to the bamboo flooring

but pissing me off: the housing inspector missed that the water heater was not installed to code.

Awesome on the cat litter. I saw that bulk display at Petco a few months ago and was quite impressed. 🙂

1) It’s Friday and I’m done working.
2) Started a fire in the firepit to start burning some of the extensive sticks we’ve collected over the winter.
3) No rain in the forcast for the next few days — which means keep the hose near to the firepit.
4) Bought some bushes for planting tomorrow — can’t wait to fill the spot that’s been bare for 5 years now.
5) Went to a Weight Watchers meeting this week and I’m slowly getting on track. It’s not hard to admit that I need help in the healthy eating department.
6) I’m angry that the price of WW went up, but since I need the help I will work on not wasting that monthly cost. Hopefully I will make it back to being a freebee.

Mauren, you might want to see if there is a TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) chapter near you. It is a wonderful weight loss support group, and much less expensive than WW! The website is http://www.tops.org.

Happy things:

1. My cute little two week old son.

2. A swift recovery from childbirth.

3. My girlies having so much fun playing in the yard and soaking up all the sunshine.

4. The wall ledges and bookshelves my husband was able to make during his time off since I didn’t need a lot of help around the house due to #2.

5. All the delicious meals friends have been bringing over for us.

Not so happy thing:
Cheap over packaged baby gifts. So much plastic.

3 Things that make me happy:

1. My vintage Mikasa stoneware cups and saucers I scored at Goodwill this weekend. They are green and sturdy and wonderful. 🙂 I thought an older man was about to fight me for them. Goodwill is not for wussies.
2. That I live in the era of painkillers.
3. The Goonies is on TV!

1 Thing that Makes Me Angry:

People who overdo the breathing in yoga. It is important to breathe deeply and intentionally. However, you don’t have to sound like an emphysemic scuba diver with a head cold to get the job done. Especially when you are right next to me. 😉

Can those sounds be faked? maybe she has asthma- or bronchitis. I have asthma and my lungs will go from clear to full of goop in 3 minutes.. I cough in a nasty hacking way and I see people giving me disgusted looks on the bus or if I’m in a public building. During that swine flu time I was yelled at on the bus, and I have to say its the other people on the bus’s fault for smelling of perfume and cigarettes to which I’m allergic. I don’t want to be disgusting and I’d stop if I could.

Oh she can help it, because I sat next to her for 15 minutes before we got started. The moment the lights went down and we were told to concentrate on our breathing? She started sounding like a phone stalker.

ok, I guess I’m a bit oversensitive anyway. lol @ phone stalker.

1) I saved up for and bought with cash (on sale) a bicycle trailer….for dogs. Now I can take arthritic big dog to park that has a pond to go swimming again. she used to like that but its too far for her to walk now and I don’t have a car.
2)its sunny and warm these days after a cooold winter
3)someone forgave me for something really stupid I did. I will try to pass this on and cut someone else some slack.
4)I found 3 books in a “garbage due to moving” pile that I really wanted to read.
5)some people told my client they saw me doing a good job.

thing that I am angry about- a client’s fake shock and horror when I asked to be paid. She always does this. no other client does this. that’s a thing to be happy about too then- the rest of my clients are pretty great.

Picturing a dog in a bike trailer had put a smile on my face 🙂

Lots of Portlanders pull their dogs in trailers. Doesn’t even make me blink anymore.

Poppy, why not ask her? Mention that no other client does this and express surprise that she does. I bet she’ll change her tune instantly.

Got married six months ago and hubby and I lived in my cable-and-antenna-less house at first. Just sold mine and moved into his. He has cable! (Not gonna lie – we’re in escrow on a new house, which will not have such a wasteful cable plan, but for now it is a wonderful, if temporary, guilty pleasure.) I just “met” Nicole Curtis and adore Rehab Addict. I even learned how to use the DVR function so I can record every episode.
Also, am reading “A Sudden Country” about early settlers in your corner of the world. I found it rough going at first, but am totally sucked in at present. I think when I’m finished I’ll be able to say I highly recommend it. I got it from the library without a library card – $1.00 at the quarterly book sale. Not quite free, but no risk of library fines either.

4. my Irises are in various stages of bloom
5. made an awesome Japanese inspired dinner including a salad with a homemade peanut sauce. I don’t think I will be buying the pre-made stuff again.

Nothing to bug me today thought this getting in shape has me seriously stiff and sore today. Tomorrow the stairs again.

My daughter and I went on a short vacation last week and hotel had cable–we loved Rehab Addict! No cable @ home–can you elaborate about the on-demand? Maybe it’s only available on the West Coast–we’re in Georgia. We had NetFlix streaming for a while but I don’t remember if this show was one of the options. Thanks–

Re #2: Youngest couldn’t say vagina yet, but she knew what it was. She called it her China. So there you go. Maybe all babies come from China? Also, a friend of mine had a girl cat named China, so . . .
