Four Frugal Things — A Lil’ eBay Sale

1) I walked to the library and checked out a copy of Everyone is Lying to You, by Jo Piazza. I’m just a couple chapters in, but seems like it’s going to be fun.

I also picked up three additional books to bolster the skyscraper of library materials that inhabit my living room. What can I say? I like to have choices when deciding my next read!
Exhibit A:

I started Wild Dark Shore earlier this year, but it somehow didn’t grab me. Other people raved (raved!) about it, so I’m going to give it another chance. Maybe. (Maybe!)

2) I sold an Ikea duvet and pillowcase set that I stopped using when I thrifted a better quality Pottery Barn linen duvet. The texture on the Ikea one was unpleasant and that’s just a no-go in my world.
Exhibit B:

I bought the Ikea one from a consignment shop and think I paid $15, so I was happy to accept a $20 offer to keep it in circulation.

3) I sent the duvet cover off in a secondhand bubble mailer and arranged to have the mail carrier grab it from my front porch. This a free service through the USPS website and saves me from having to drive to a post office.
Even though it meant packaging everything up at 11:45 last night.

4) My daughter came over last night and we watched a couple episodes of The Haunting of Hill House, (so spooky!) while chomping down on leftover chicken, rice and cheesecake.
The perfect cozy evening!
Now your turn, what frugal things have you been up to?

Routinely ordinary actions here.
1. Husband finally pulled pants that are too big out of his closet to donate. I marked the bags as Men’s XL/2XL, because I am sure the store gets many too many clothes that aren’t saleable, but they should be able to sell these jeans, if they get out on the floor. Also had a number of nice children’s books to donate.
2. Looked around at the thrift store. Knew enough not to buy several Charles-and-Diana mugs for ten cents each as having no resale value, though some people of course collect them.
3. Accidently got a large container of plain yogurt instead of vanilla. I have recipes for a lemon and a chocolate loaf cake that use yogurt, and I looked online for more ideas. The biscuits that are equal parts yogurt and flour (self-rising, or a little baking powder) were simple to make and looked great. The texture, however, was like rubber. Will not repeat. Ever.
4. Husband has new lenses on order following his successful cataract surgery. Used the AARP discount. Because we have odd eye needs, we go to a doctor’s office, not a discount place, and I don’t know if the discount would apply at one of those centers.
5. Local arts council had a program for a table read of The Pageant of our local town, as written by the HS sophomore class in 1927. Was great fun, and well organized so we could each read a few lines. Picked up some ideas about the history of the town; hadn’t thought about how the Civil War was a major memory for people then.
This morning I swung by a house in my neighborhood that sporadically puts out a Free table. Not a free pile or box, but several tables of freebies. While I have never found anything I needed/wanted in the past other than a book here or there, today I hit the jackpot. (I arrived right after they set it up.) I grabbed two heavy white restaurant ware dinner plates, an Oxo pepper mill, a flat whisk bigger than the one I had at home, and a Marcrest ovenproof stoneware mixing bowl. I promptly listed the bowl for sale in two local sites including FB Marketplace. Fingers crossed.
