I used to live in New York City, although it was a looong time ago. (1988-1990) So I kind of know the lay of the land, and I kind of know what’s what. (Disclaimer — I know nothing.)
Either way, here I am.
Luckily, I have my friend Greta to stay with, and together she and I are going to hang out in The City and enjoy all that keeps native New Yorkers here in August. (Note — real New Yorkers leave in August because everything is rather hot, smelly and unpleasant.)
As much as I love Portland, I also love exploring other cities. Getting out of my routine and reminding myself that there’s a great big world outside my city limits. (Crazy, but true!)
I’m not sure what we’ll do today, but you can be assured that it will be frugal. (Note — might be pricey.)

Last summer we visited New York and one of my favorite free things to do was visit the big library in Harlem..there are incredible exhibits inside and things to see, listen to, think about–a lot of the history of my youth was represented there..the politics of the time, the civil rights movement,etc.. it is an inspirational place! (And there is a really good Soul Food restaurant a few blocks away..)

Hope it’s not too late to be a little helpful. Will be watching tomorrow!
Live it up. Go to the falafel place in Washinton Square. MoohMarr’s? It is world famous. One of my favorites is the rice pudding restaurant in the Village. Rice Something. Ann
Not sure what I’m going to do tomorrow after the show. I meet up with a friend after she gets off from work, so I have the whole day free.
BTW, I am *not* complaining! 😀

Caught your segment on The Today Show on-line. By the time I got to it, it had moved around on the page several times. Anyway, very articulate and hope it brings your blog more traffic.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Love your luscious sense of humor! Lovely writing!

The best way to make sure you get the best frugal thing to do is to become a member of Club freeTime (www.clubfreetime.com). The site is devoted to free cultural things to do in New York City (mostly Manhattan); in addition, members can get complimentary tickets to various non-free events, like off-Broadway shows, jazz and classical music concerts, etc….
