Having Fun with Spray Paint

by Katy on September 21, 2011 · 26 comments

Who’s been having fun with spray paint? I’ve been having fun with spray paint!

For example, We had a number of framed portraits of our sons peppered throughout the house. I never really liked the frame color, which was super bland blonde wood, so I decided to spray paint them black.

Watch their transformation from bland to fabulous:

Much better, right?

Ha – I just came to comment on how I’d used spray paint to transform a frame and mat that came with a print my mom found for my son at a yard sale. I painted the frame white, but then the shade was different than the white of the mat, so I just sprayed that, too. I do believe I got the idea to spray paint the mat from The Frugal Girl, herself! 🙂

Additional comment…I saw your tweet about looking “self-conciously curated” and I disagreed whole-heartedly. Your new arrangement looks clean, neat and professional. Jealous of your paint color!

This is completely beside the point, but I LOVE the color on your walls! What is it called?

Sorry, I have no idea what the paint color was called.

Great job! If those were mine they would have been sitting out in a pile for a year before I got around to painting them 🙂

I heart spray paint. I just painted some dollar store frames for my son’s room and am about to paint some spice racks the same color to serve as wall hanging bookshelves for his little reading corner.

I too have discovered the joy of spray painting recently. I purchased a new in the box ceiling fixture for $2 at an auction….the all white color didn’t work in my house so I spray painted it a dark gray-blackish metallic color. LOVE it! Now I’m looking around the house for what else I can paint.

I love it! The whole corner of the room looks so much more sophisticated and serene. Well done!

Now will you come to Michigan please and spray paint the mailbox that I started but have not finished?

Spray painting is everywhere! Why did I miss out on this cheap and easy fix-up for years and years? Why did I spend so much time painstakingly using my little brush and can?

Seriously. Couldn’t be easier (unless you found them black to begin with) and cheaper. Looks great!

My favorite hair clip broke, it wasn’t fixable, and I didn’t want to buy another one. Then, it occurred to me that I had a hair clip with a fish print that I picked up from a garage sale for my niece. Enter a can of black spray paint. Now it is suitable for an adult. Spray paint IS a wonderful invention!

I’ve never used spray paint. I have a metal tea cart that’s at least 25 years old, and has been used in numerous situations. Lastly, it’s been out on the deck in all weather, so it has some rust on it. I saw a picture in a magazine of an organized garage, and they had a stainless steel cart, similar in structure to mine, for “only” $125. So I bought spray paint primer and silver spray paint. About a year ago. I still haven’t started on it. Maybe this weekend…

Elegant. But a bit depressing, the black color. Combined with smiling kids it looks like a very bittersweet memory framed on the wall. As if they were no more (GOD forbid!!!), but still. Spray-paint them in dark brown like walnut or something…
