Some of you may have noticed that The Non-Consumer Advocate has been a bit inconsistent of late. One day a fantastic post, the next day nothing. And I can finally share my big news that has kept me so busy and away from the computer:
I am going to star in my own TV show starting this fall on The Frugal Network!
The name is not completely set in stone, but so far we’re going with:
The Non-Consumer Advocate: Decorating, Eating and Living with Garbage.
I’m so excited that I’m fit to burst. However, there are going to have to be some changes before I’m, ahem . . . TV-ready. I’ve already started on an MD-supervised 500 calorie a day diet, and have just finished getting my teeth capped and dermabrasion to even out my skin tone. This may seem extreme, but it’s all in my contract, so I don’t really have a choice.
Because of the time requirements, I’ll only be writing once a week, and most of these are likely to be previously published posts.
The money is fantastic, so I’m willing to make all these changes, and frankly, I’ll be happy to say to goodbye to all that awful scrimping and saving. (I’ve tried to put a positive spin on frugality, but seriously, who was I kidding?!) If I never set foot in a Goodwill again, I’ll be a happy gal indeed!
Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their first day of April. Because, you know, it’s April Fools Day.
Then again, I hope you already knew that. 😉

Good one!
So good! I was excited about the show and furious about 500 calories a day! my daughter and husband have been trying to get me all day. Hope you are well!
I believed you!
😀
Katy
me too! I almost had a heart attack.
Gah. Didn’t buy it for a minute 🙂
Me, neither! Well, as soon as I saw the title of the show I knew it must be a joke! 🙂
You had me until you got to the teeth! Thanks for the laugh.
OMG…I was soooooo disappointed in you!! I got thru about 2/3 of the post and started groaning. My husband asked me what was wrong so I started at the beginning and read the post out loud to him. Groaning the whole time!!! I was formalizing my snarky response to you as I read…and then – wham!! You got me, girl!!! Happy April Fool’s day from Ann (the Fooled)!!!
Happy I didn’t warrant a “snarky response.” 🙂
Katy
You had me until you said you’d never again step into Goodwill.
Me, too! When I saw that part, I checked the date and realized what it was.
Me too!
Tehee! Too funny!! I thought frugal network–where have I been–never heard of that one??? Then I got to the proposed name for your show and then I knew–that Katy–she is getting us good! The jokes on us and it was fun and clever. Way to go girl!!
Yeah. The not stepping foot into a Goodwill again seemed totally out of character. It would make me sad if you really meant that!
At first, I was like yeah, that is awesome and then I was like you are so wrong.
How come the “Eating Garbage” was not a clue to anyone?
Katy
Maybe b/c extreme names bring viewers? And dumpster diving, eating veggies grown with compost or recreating leftovers could all be construed as “eating garbage?”
True.
Katy
Exactly!
You had me right up until “I’ll be happy to say to goodbye to all that awful scrimping and saving.” Then I knew something was up.
🙂
Brilliant.
Clever!
Shoot.. I wanted to watch your show…LOL!
Was so disappointed that you said you never wanted to set foot in Goodwill again- I thought you LIKED the adventure- then the April Fool comment! Phew!
That Eating Garbage was in the title of the show and that is when I did catch on—that would be filed right under things that Katy won’t do! Again, tehee!! She got us good and it was fun.
I was thinking “Oh, no….don’t use the word garbage. Maybe something like castoffs, or freebies, or……….” You got us good. Last year I sent an email to all our grown kids telling them we were moving to Mexico. They didn’t believe it for a moment.
I believed it for a minute! Then I re-read it and laughed 😀

Knit, Nicole, Knit!
Got ME! so glad that you were joking, I would have been so disappointed!
Hilarious! You had me going there! Happy day!
You got me hook, line and sinker. I’m glad I clicked on the comments because I would have never figured it out. I wondered how you could have changed your opinion so much. And I also wondered what exactly you would be able to eat on a 500 calorie a day diet! I’m glad you’re not going anywhere. But I do think the Frugal Network thing is a good idea, I think it would be a popular channel.
Thanks for the laugh!

You totally had me too! Up until the microderm abrasion for your face.. then I thought… really?!? I was thinking the whole time… I’ll have to look up “the Fugal Network” to see if I get that channel with our “frugal” cable package. The title with the Garbage did seem a bit extreme. Happy April Fool’s! 🙂
I’ve seen several April Fools posts today, but this one was the best. I laughed the whole way through it. 😀
Well then, mission accomplished!
Katy
You had me until the 500-calorie part…good spoof!!!
You crack me up! You really had me, until I read the bit about what was in your contract. Love it! Happy April 1 day.
haha….that was so good! I was REALLY excited about the show!!!!
rats.
I thought “garbage” why is she putting THAT in the title…then when I read about the dermabrasion I thought, Katy would not do these things. I was REALLY excited to watch YOUR show but glad when it was an April Fool’s joke..Always…love your posts.
Sheesh – I believed it right up until you ‘fessed up 🙂
ACK! ACK! ACK!
OH LORDY. I was about to come over here and chastise you for 500 calories a day!!!
OHH!! I didn’t even get to the end! !!! HAHAHAHA
Well played, Katy, well played! I believed you and began to wonder where all your principles had disappeared to and how anyone could survive on 500 calories/day.
Glad you’re not leaving us! 🙂
You one crazy girl. I am relieved……..
LOL!!!
You really had me going, I couldn’t believe what you were saying, extreme diet, new teeth & skin, I knew it was a joke when I got to the Goodwill statement.
I was all getting excited in the beginning. That was agood one!!
I fell. I was so excited!
Hmmm…I wondered about the show title, balked at the 500 calorie diet, checked the date of the post at “awful scrimping,” and burst out laughing. Well done.
Progression of thoughts: The Frugal Network, haven’t heard of it, need to check if I have it…Okay, garbage is tv-ised version of leftovers & secondhand goods…500 calories a day? I guess they really do that kind of crap to people…hmmm, I don’t think I want to see this Katy, I want the real Katy…no scrimping and saving? I thought she liked doing that…oh…wait a minute, does that say what I think it says?…yes it does…that’s weird…I don’t think I want to watch her show!…OOHHH…you b*&%-…no, i did NOT already guess that. Glad to see others were fooled, too. Good one!
I was buying it at first – I was getting all excited for you! Bad girl. Till I saw the title and the 500 calorie a day diet.
I could totally see you having your own show. Sorta like the Katy Brown Workshop, but MUCH better. 😀
Darnit! You mean there isn’t really a Frugal Network? I would totally watch that. 🙂
I wasn’t convinced. When you said no more Goodwll, I knew you were full of it!! LOL!
You had me, until I read the name suggestion. I was thinking, “why didn’t you mention this when we spoke the other day”. Thanks that was the only prank I got this year, even if it is already April 2.
I’m reading this a couple days late and you ALMOST had me!
You had me right up to the 500-calories-a-day diet. 😛
