Need Reading Suggestions?

I’ve been super bummed out about my library branch being closed for expansion. Sure, they added a small holds pickup location with some “Lucky Day” books, but there are no stacks to browse, which is how I find at least half of what I end up reading. So when I came across these books recommendations from Ashley Stock/Little Miss Mama’s Instagram reel, I took screen shots and put maybe ten of them on hold through the library’s website. I’d read maybe a third of them already, so I felt this woman and I were likely to enjoy similar books.

Here’s the screenshots if you’re also on the hunt for new reading material:

Historical Fiction:

Love Stories:

Really Well Written:

Books About Children Who Overcome Odds:

My plan is to put so many books on hold that my house serves as my own makeshift library. I think it can work.

Thanks for those pics, I like audio books , I find them so easy and think it’s partly from being single, no one to talk to : no problem listen to a book .
I use Libby but my library doesn’t have many of the books I want on there which frustrates me a bit. I’ve already looked up some of the books above and they are on my Libby.

My money saving things
1. Talked to my bank about the increase in interest costs and fees for many transactions ! They didn’t care so now looking to change banks. I’ve been loyal but they don’t care so time for me to stop being loyal. While this isn’t saving me much money yet I have decreased my transactions which is saving a bit.

2. With this bank I have an account with rewards points, I’m using them before I bail so used most of the points on vouchers I will use, didn’t need any more “things “

3 . Been eating from home 99% of the time, dinner tonight will last for lunch and tea for the next few days

4 want chocolate no worries eat from the chocolate jar at work with no cost for me

5. Tracking every cent helps me to save.

Such a bummer on your #1. Consider changing your account to a credit union instead of a bank.

Thanks!! I’ve read many of these and I will check into the ones I haven’t. It’s nice when you find someone who reads the same books to trade suggestions with. Invaluable.

I’m way behind on my reading. I have books on my iPad and hard copies. My plan to read when I’m recovering from heart surgery in November
Kristin Baker Kline (Klein) is another author you may enjoy. In fact I met her last year while we visited friends in Maine. She owned the home my friends renting for the summer
1. Used our United Health Care rewards to buy HABA.
2. Used a $5 Visa reward (survey reward) and CVS reward to buy a $10 gift to bring to Bingo today
3. Sold a couple of items via Facebook marketplace
4. Sorted thru sock drawer and downgraded some to rags
5. Dogs have enjoyed their free farmers dog food

Thanks for the book recommendations. I see some I’ve read and some I’m planning to read. Also saw some I haven’t heard of yet. I’m always happy to get new suggestions.

I currently have 36 hold ready to be picked up (and I picked a bunch last week). They are my library for reading to my grandson. He has not finished with his alphabet book kick yet.

I am currently between library subscriptions and bought a few e-books through BookBub $1.99 deal reccomendations. E-books are often $12.99, so the discount is very nice.

Have you noticed how many books have a sort of generic abstract cover design? They all kind of look alike. I miss the days when they were done by real designers.

My latest read was “Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing”. Large, heavy, expensive, and rather dry. Would not recommend.

I don’t know who has kids (or grandkids) here but there is a fairly new product called a “wonderbook”, that I can only find when I search our system (I’m Clackamas county but Wash. county has them too) and they are fabulous. They are listed strangely- type is really an audiobook but they have a box with a ? inside it as the type. All you need is a regular set of headphones, and the book has the player built in- so kids can turn the pages and read along after pushing play. Kind of like the old CD/cassette idea, except all in one! My 1st graders LOVE them. Just a FYI if anyone is putting books on hold!
