Right Now, I am . . .

Today’s post is inspired by The Frugal Girl, who in turn was inspired by Soule Mama.

Today I am . . .

Grateful that my back seems to be on the mend. Last time I injured my back, I was out of work for three months and laying sideways on the couch for an entire month. So I was kind of freaking out.

Amazed with how easy it was to get the kids off to school today. Yesterday was full of drama, and it’s amazing what a difference a day can make.

Impressed with how my sons’ teachers can do such an incredible job with such little district support. My older son’s high school art teacher has an annual supply budget of $0, which I find to be unconscionable.

Kind of grossed out by how dirty my kitchen floor is at the moment. I’ve never been good about keeping it clean, but I may have a hit a new low.

Looking forward to running a few errands today, as I haven’t really left the house for more than a few minutes since Saturday.

Proud that I caught up on the family’s laundry last night, even though it meant I needed to use the electric dryer.

Defensive that I need to explain that my husband has been fighting a bad cold, yet still going to work every day. This is why he hasn’t been picking up the slack.

Anxious, yet excited about a national TV thing that will be filming at the house sometime in the next few weeks. I am hoping that it will open up some great opportunities for me.

Feeling guilty about how I am apparently unable to stay on top of my CSA box. I know I could give away, preserve or Freecycle the produce, but it simply wasn’t my priority this week.

Pleased with all the small home improvement projects that I’ve been busying myself with. The house will look super cute when the TV cameras arrive.

Resigned that summer is actually over. The leaves covering the backyard attest to this truth.

Amazed that my older son is about to turn sixteen. And relieved that he has zero interest in learning to drive.

Happy.

What is your CSA box? I remember seeing that earlier but I can’t seem to place it and I am being a little about trying to look it up. Glad you are feeling better and can’t wait for more info on the National TV thing…hope it won’t be on cable…I decided to get rid of it a few years ago and don’t miss it (Much!)

Okay, the driving thing really made me laugh! My oldest is turning 14 in just over a month, and I, too, shall be immensely relieved if he has no interest in learning to drive. Thankfully we live in an incredibly walkable neighbourhood with decent bus service to the downtown area so I have my fingers crossed 🙂

First….I’m glad that you are feeling better.
Second….I completely understand the floor thing…you probably don’t need to ask 🙂
Third…be careful what you are amazed by. I am not sure that waiting was the right thing for our kids even though it seemed that way at the time.

I will make sure my son has a driver’s license by the time he’s off to college. Before that he can take the bus, ride his bike and bum rides from his parents.

My number one CSA strategy: vegetable soup in the crock pot.

Thank you for recognizing teachers with $0 budgets…it’s so frustrating sometimes, especially since we’re held so accountable anymore. Being a public educator has been weighing heavily on my mind lately and I’m glad parents understand what we’re up against.

I’m grateful that it’s dry and warm enough in the mountains of Colorado that I could line dry sheets and towels today. Soon it will be below zero and dark for most of the day.

I’m pleased, amazed, grateful that the UK is having a mini-heatwave at the moment. It means that all the outside jobs that need doing before stuff’s packed away for winter can be done with the sun on my back instead of rain!

Is there a way to think about cleaning the floor differently? Is there a lot of dirt being tracked in from outside? Would a rug sample or remnant placed outside the main dirt source help keep the floor cleaner?
Every hometown flooring store has discontinued samples available on an ongoing basis. There are often carpet scraps available for the asking. Some places do charge for them, but if you called ahead and asked to swap, say, a homemade jar of jam, I’m sure they’d happily make a trade. Just don’t try this at the box stores. I’m sure there are rules upon rules there.

Hmm . . . I like the idea of trading canned goods for store items. However, the kitchen floor issue is simply that we dribble a lot of stuff on the floor, yet never clean it up.

It’s somehow just a job that we all hate to do.

I had that same problem with our CSA last week. It was an amazingly productive week at the farm and there was too much food but since I managed to get to all the produce from the past 13 weeks I had to forgive myself for a few veggies that met a composting fate.
