Four Tiny Frugal Things — Passed Hors D’oeuvres

1) My husband and I spent a couple hours running errands, which included both Costco and Whole Foods. Of course, I accepted the full variety of passed hors d’oeuvres.

2) Complete with dessert!

We’re now stocked up on dishwashing liquid, coffee beans and frozen berries.

3) We also ran into Whole Foods to pick up a $35 “Family Meal” for his work lunches. This routine saves my husband from losing his last day off to shopping, cooking and cleaning up. Plus the whole mental load of “Ugh . . . what should I cook for my work lunches?”

He works four ten-hour days, so his refrigerated meals last an entire “week.”

4) I got my husband to downloaded the Libby app on his phone in order to listen to Kevin Hazzard’s American Sirens, which he was about to start reading. This way he can listen to the book during his commute.

Now your turn, what frugal things have you been up to?

  1. My husband has a hoodie sweatshirt that he likes but finds the bulky hood annoying. So I turned it into a low mockneck with a drawstring. Hero’s honors to my little sewing machine for powering through four layers of thick cotton.

Found next month’s selection for banned book club for free on Hoopla, with a check-out period of 21 days. Made a double batch of chocolate pudding for the family’s desserts. Watched a YouTube video to troubleshoot a problem with our canister vacuum cleaner. The new part needed was only $15 on sale.

  2. I have on hold and am waiting my turn on Libby for the audiobook of “American Pope” by NPR’s Scott Detrow and Daniel Burke, about Pope Leo XIV. The audiobook is the first available through my library/Libby before the ebook (my preferred format) but I’ll take it when my turn comes around.

  3. 1. Made sure to use my CVS ExtraBucks on things we would buy anyway saving $6.17.
    2. Decided to have our older dryer fixed for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the price of a new one plus the then required cost of changing the outlet.
    3. Some software glitch is keeping me from being able to get my returns of Kindle books so I can’t check out more right now. I went to the library and got some physical books to tide me over.
    4. Made a big pot of minestrone given that we had all the ingredients. Quite a few meals for the 2 of us.
    5. Ordered book for older granddaughter’s birthday and a Lego set for younger one for Christmas. Reasonable amount spent and both were on their lists.
