The Best Day Ever

by Katy on September 1, 2010 · 14 comments

I spent the day getting ready for a short vacation that my family is squeezing in before the school year ramps back up again. I reserved hotel rooms, put the newspaper on hold, cancelled the cable, washed clothing, cleaned house and then ran out to The Grocery Outlet to stock up on vacation style food.

Which included a six pack of Widmer Hefeweizen beer.

And then it happened.

I got carded.

And since I am precisely twice the legal drinking age, this is a random occurrence.

Thus making today the best. Day. Ever.

Did Gretchen Rubin get carded during her year of The Happiness Project? Because I think she definitely should have included this component. Definitely better than a clean and organized closet.

P.S. I will be on vacation until this weekend, and will be taking a break from blogging. See ya’ later!

I’m not surprised you got carded, not at all. I mean, to me, neither of us has changed a bit since high school. Ahem. 😀

Have a great trip, Katy.

nope, none of us have changed at all. OK, now I feel old, remembering us together then 🙂 (a particular late night at Ketura sticks out, but ‘nuf said)

Indiana has a new rule where they card everyone. So annoying. I saw a woman at the store the other day who was at least 60 and buying wine. She didn’t have her ID on her and they couldn’t sell it to her. You have got to be kidding me!

My boyfriend and I are exactly the same age. We have the same birthday and were born withing a few hours of each other. However, he has always looked older than me. Thus, every time we go out, he gets to walk right into the bar and I get carded (if they check cards at the door). If we buy wine at dinner, he orders without incident and then I order and get carded. It’s actually kind of funny at this point because I just go ahead and break out my ID before I even order and he just laughs at me.

I love it when I get carded. One time I tried to tip the cashier! The last memorable time it happened was when I was with my younger sister. she didn’t get carded, I did. I was 45 at that time. Puts a spring in my step for the rest of the day! 🙂

Love it!! See, it’s the simple “free” pleasures in life that make the biggest difference!!

I love when I get carded! The high lasts at least a week.
One time when I was 29 (it was required by law to card anyone under the age of 30) and the grocery store cashier didn’t card me I blurted out, “Are you telling my I look over 30!”. She was mortified and politely told me no and asked to see my ID. Sometimes I think I’m SO funny only to realize I not!

I’m so glad you had such a great experience – my friends enjoy it as well! But I should add, a good friend of mine is young and just out of grad school, and for some reason people stopped carding her … and she’s so depressed!

Lucky girl! I am three times the legal drinking age, exactly three times. So, if I get carded, I will just assume the person is legally blind. Maybe I will faint. One day, when I was in my forties, I was in a gas station where people were buying beer, and I was buying a Coke. My pretend sorrow at not being carded caused laughter and then the attendant insisted I show my id… Okay, I suppose it has been 20 years since I was carded. Those were the days….sigh.

One hot summer day my brother ran into a store to pick up a six-pack. His money was in his pocket, so he left his wallet in the truck. When he tried to buy the beer, he got carded. Not wanting to schlep back to his truck in the heat without a cold sixer, he looked the cashier in the eye and lifted his baseball cap. She took one look at his hairline and rang up the beer. Classic! He’ll never live it down.

I’m the same age as you and recently went into a quicky mart type store to buy beer and got carded. The cashier actually looked at my license, then at me and then tried scratching the license to see if I had altered the numbers! COOL! It put a huge grin on my face, that’s for sure!
