Today I Am . . .

by Katy on May 21, 2013 · 25 comments

Today I am . . .

  • Completely and utterly exhausted from working yesterday.
  • Happy to have a job.
  • Feeding frozen blood worms to my son’s new teeny tiny frog.
  • Noticing that all of my shoes are either needing repair or are beyond repair.
  • Missing the sunshine that I complained about a few weeks ago.
  • Voting.
  • Home with a sick 17 year old.
  • Walking my ballot to the library.
  • Exhausted.
  • Unlikely to go anywhere and spend any money.

Now you. What are you doing today?

It was a soft call to let him stay home. He’ll pull through just fine.

Not a whole lot going on here today except for waiting around for the teenager who’s going to buy our fish tank. It’s 150 gallons and came with the house and we are never going to use it. We’re getting rid of the tank and he’s saving hundreds of dollars on something he really wants. I’ve already sold the hundreds of pounds of solid cinder blocks that were supporting it and a friend will be building shelves to fill in the hole in the wall where the tank was. In return for that and some other handy-man help, he’s getting some other things the previous owners left us. Frugal win-win-win. 🙂

That is where you and I will have to agree to disagree.

Today I am recuperating from cleaning closets and taking 8 forty gallon bags to the Goodwill. The garden is planted and some shoes taken to a co worker. Katy, did you know that Clark’s will take your old Clark’s shoes and replace them with new? Clark shoes, like craftsman tools are guaranteed for life.

Sorry, I misread that, but 8 40-gallon bags is a lot of stuff!

I should see if I still have my Clark’s sandals. I stopped wearing them because the heel was very worn and had a hole in it. But the leather up top was still in excellent shape. They are 16 years old. Loved those sandals.

I am SO glad to learn about the Clarks! I have a pair with a blown out heel that I held on to for gardening. I really liked them and would love to have another pair.

Today I am:
– Trying to catch up on my MSW homework
– Trying to catch up on the endless laundry
– Feeling overwhelmed with both of the above
– Taking frequent breaks to read blogs and clear out my short term memory
– snuggled up with a sleepy chihuahua who is totally supportive of a tired master’s student

Nothing much going on here, we are under a Tornado watch, we have had the power go out a few times and it is destroying my washing machine cycle! Trying to catch up with house work as I didn’t get anything done yesterday due to very bad weather! fun fun fun.. Love living in Texas ;-)I know I shouldn’t complain as the town next to us got hit by a Tornado yesterday and of course Moore.

Picking fresh strawberries from our patch
Making a strawberry pie and putting some in the freezer
Had strawberries on my breakfast cereal…a theme seems to be emerging here:)
Did one load of laundry
Taking my daily nature walk for exercise
Pulling weeds in the garden
Filling a salad spinner with lettuce and spinach fresh from the garden
Looking forward to Thursday when I head to town…I have read all my library books and want more!

Sure hope your son begins to feel much soon!

Went down to Town Hall and filed my tax grievance. Third year in a row; 4th time in 5 years. They just won’t listen. But this year I have more proof than in previous years and the prices of housing in this area has dropped significantly over the last 5 years. Our town has not recovered as much as other towns in this local area. And apparently a lot of people in my town are not happy as the only appointment left was the day after grievence day.

And my thoughts and prayers are with the people in OK who have lost everything. Here I am complaining about my taxes, and they have nothing.

I’m exhausted as well… can’t win lately on the sleep front! Making 2 loaves of bread, did schooling with the girls, put up a sewing tutorial on my blog. Trying to think of something easy for dinner… ready for a nap though, which will never happen. 😉 Such is life…

Spent the morning on a field trip to a living history site with my younger kid’s class.
Home now with a sick teenager.
Hoping I can get to the library to pick up the copy of Scratch Beginnings on hold for me. (I just finished Nickel & Dimed. Interesting read, but I think her approach had a lot of flaws–like never shopping in thrift stores.)
Killing time reading a favorite mystery author’s new book.
Thinking about all the work to be done in my yard/garden (which explains why I’m procrastinating with a book!).

Taking my kids to appointment
Dealing with insurance on the phone…frustrating!
Teaching kids drama
Looking forward to my birthday tomorrow!

Katy, sounds to me, like you need a thrift store day to shop for shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I did today was work, and watch it rain. Now tomorrow I intend to
1) Laundry
2) make another batch of cinnamon swirl bread. You make like cinnamon rolls, only instead of cutting into rolls, you cut in half, rise again, put in,loaf pans.Mmmm!
3) Watch it rain

Making yogurt today and hope to get caught up with some long-overdue housework, & I’ll be in the veggie garden some as well. The storms that rumbled through North Texas last night cooled the air and it’s only 60 degrees now, but forecast to be almost 90 this afternoon (that’s a wild temp swing!) I’m using the attic fan now to draw that cool air in, then I’ll close everything up and the house will stay cool through this evening sans air conditioning. Love it!

So funny since I briefly turned the heat on this morning in order to coax the kids out of bed.
