Because my friend Lise and I are making pickles. And I would classify this activity under the category of "complicated living." Seriously.

Update: After a false start, many jar of pickles were canned. See for yourself:

I am distracted by how cute those cabinets look with their multicolored dishes and little black and white checks. 🙂

I seem to care more about my plates than what’s on them.

Would those be bread and butter pickles? Just wondering, what with the scrumptious looking baguette on the cutting board.

Nope. Just regular dill pickles. And the baguette for for sustenance for hungry gals.

You bought new canning jars?
If you need more watch for them at Thrift Stores they are usually really cheap (I mean inexpensive) I have a few of theories why so many turn up there:
#1 People get gifts of canned good and when the jars are empty they donate them to charity
#2 Someone tried canning, bought all the equipment but then thought it was too complicated, so they donated their stuff to charity.
#3 They were cleaning out some relitive’s house and found the world’s biggest stash of canning jars in the basement and donated them to charity since they never learned to can from that relative.

First attempts at canning may seem overwhelming but as with anything after a few times you wonder why you ever thought it was such a big deal.

Fear not, sweet Linda 😉 My friend Lise brought those over. My canning jars are a hodge-podge collection of jars from here, there and everywhere. (A.K.A., my father’s basement.)

And by the way, I love the word cheap!

One year my DH heard a rumor that Ball Jars were going to stop being manufactured…he rounded up as many as he could fit in his trunk…now we are swimming in them. It’s okay, because we’re Sicilian and we can tomatoes by the ton each year (must have marinara!). Kind of reminds me of the year he heard a rumor that there was going to be a shortage of pumpkin puree (for Thanksgiving pies) – took us 3 years (and close to expiration date) of pies and pumpkin risotto and pumpkin ravioli to use that bunch up!
