Although I am enamored of having a less-cluttered house, (note that I didn't say uncluttered) I am not above stopping at garage and estate sales on my way home from running errands. After all, many practical items can be found for pennies on the dollar this way. For example, our propane barbecue has been dissolving...

Remember Fabulous Frugal Finds? Well they are back with a vengeance! And Katy has a bad case of chandelier envy! From Julia Park Tracey, the writer behind The Doris Diaries (www.thedorisdiaries.com) and the novel, Tongues of Angels, to be published in April 2013. Look at what I did with a can of spray paint! I transformed a basic chandelier and a...
Today's Fabulous Frugal Find comes from Megg, who blogs over at Librarian Housewife, telling her tales of "The life of a not so desperate housewife." Megg kindly sent in the story and photos of a bedside table that used to belong to her husband's grandfather. And with a fair amount of elbow grease, she was...
It's time again for another Fabulous Frugal Find, this time from Cate Linden, who blogs over at Liberal Simplicity. My husband and I are expecting our second child sometime in February or March, so we wanted to get our 2-year-old transitioned to a bigger bed. We thought about buying a twin, but ultimately decided on...

In Portland Oregon, you go Rejuvenation lighting for your old house, or you hide your head in shame. Okay, perhaps I'm stretching the truth a wee bit, but Rejuvenation lights are specifically designed to coordinate with old Portland-style homes. So much so, that their light fixtures are all named after different streets and neighborhoods. The...
I have an on again, off again series on The Non-Consumer Advocate called Fabulous Frugal Finds. It's quite simple. Readers send in pictures and descriptions of their fabulous frugal find and I publish them. We've seen some very cool stuff, but it's been awhile since I've solicited for submissions. But I came across the fabulous...

You all know that I am Sultana of Savings, the Chancellor of Cheap, the Secretary General of Scrimp and Save! (That was fun, I could have kept going all day long!) But when it comes to spending my hard earned dollars, I tend more towards the Cheapskate of Chattanooga. I hate spending the big bucks. I...
I want to introduce you to two new pieces of art that recently joined my household. First of all is Beulah, whose simple yet skilled floral painted flower presented itself by way of the main Goodwill right here in Portland, Oregon. At $7.99, she was a bargain too good to pass up. (Not to mention...
You may (or may not) remember that I am putting aside all found money for the entirety of 2012. And let me tell ya, it's been the easiest challenge to keep up with. I find money, I drop it in a jar and enjoy watching it accumulate. My goal had been to find $65, which...
