Pardon Me . . .

This week has been super busy for me, with work, hosting a Japanese exchange student and general entertaining.

We hosted a barbecue for a couple families last night to celebrate the Japanese kids, and let me tell ya’, working on minimizing food waste is going to be a major task this week. Our refrigerator is fit to burst and we totally overbought sausages, buns, ice cream, avocados and chips.

Our party was a great example of sharing neighborhood resources, as we borrowed the next door neighbor’s patio table and chairs and then realized at the last minute that we were almost out of nice mustard. This gave me a chance to go to the other next door neighbor’s house and ask them:

“Pardon me, do you happen to have any Grey Poupon?”

I can now die a happy woman.

At least the buns and sausages cam be frozen for later meals. And at least at our home, ice cream, chips and avacados NEVER go wasted! Too bad we live in WI or we would totally help you out with those. I imagine your 2 boys will make quick work of them.

You can make guacamole and freeze that, too. Or at least you can buy it frozen so I would imagine you can freeze your own.

Awesome!

Coincidentally, a friend just shared this WWI poster with me, which I think you too will enjoy:

The best advice is often the most straightforward.

The buns can become french toast, too. Best to trim off some of the crust. It doesn’t become good bread pudding because it’s too squishy but it also makes great breadcrumbs.

Smart (or lucky?) you to have so many things that could be frozen for later.

This has nothing to do with your post but is a most awesome frugal find. My daughter is invited to an ice skating, pizza birthday party tomorrow. Never mind that it is 100 degrees but hey, it’s not my kid’s party. Of course the birthday girl has more than she could ever dream of as far as stuff goes but here’s what my 9 yr old thought to give. Fabric, the BD girl can ‘sew’, a journal, for the fashion designs, and smelly highlighters (my daughter’s fav back to homeschool purchase). We didn’t even go to town i.e Target or the mall for anything. In a little hometown store, that was once upon a time a Ben Franklin, remember those?, we purchased the highlighters. The only journal they had was the school type but I had remembered a nice one I have never used tossed somewhere in my room. My daughter’s piano teacher had 2 bags of fabric to choose from that was sitting by her doorway waiting to go to Goodwill. We got to pick and even found some trim. Total money spent was $2.50. We will make a very nice glitter and maybe even smelly highlighter card too. Just wanted to share – The Frugal Gods were good this week 🙂
