Enjoying this outtake from last week’s Zero Waste blog post:

Zero Waste Outtake

Waiting to see if the nest on our house that showed up overnight will start to see some action:

Cringing at some of the bulk options at Winco. Yes, they have organic cane sugar, oats, quinoa and pasta, but they also have powdered nacho cheese! Click on the photo to ch-ch-check out the ingredients!

I am playing computer handy person today, trying the 10th solution to work for getting a printer driver that will work with my computer. Dang technology; supposed to make life easier but has made mine harder.

I hate that kind of day. So much time spent and next to nothing to show for it.

Totally unrelated: Have you finished Gone Girl’? I wanted to talk with you about it, but didn’t want to spoil it for you.

Yes, I finished “Gone Girl” last week.

Did you enjoy it?

It was a “I Can’t Put This Down” book for me.

I knew at the beginning that Nick hadn’t killed Amy, but knew we were meant to believe he had. I thought it was the author who wanted us to believe that–when I found out it was Amy who wanted us to believe that~~that’s when that book became ‘unput-downable’ for me.

Geez, that gal was CRA-ZEE! But SMART!

I was a little disappointed with the ending cuz how could either one of them ever sleep with the other under the same roof? But, they DID deserve each other so, in a sense, it was the perfect ending.

Well, I was making some progress on packing up our house to move next week, but then proceded to slice off a bit of my finger while making my lunch. The best part? When I told my mother and sister that I’d done it while cutting lettuce, each of them replied in a slightly condescending tone with, “Don’t you know you’re supposed to TEAR lettuce?!” Ah, family. 🙂

Too funny!

Katy, who also slices her lettuce, although not her fingers.

If I had to tear lettuce I’d never eat a salad. I figure it’s ok to cut if you’re going to eat it right away and much easier to eat. Slice, slice, slice, chop, chop, dry on a tea towel.

I am waiting for 5:45pm, when I can catch the bus to meet my husband at Staples to buy more boxes, as we’re moving in less than 3 weeks and are not even remotely near to being all packed up! We still have all his books, the entire kitchen, all our clothes…ack!

Check Craigslist. People post their boxes after they move. I got boxes that way and got rid of them after.

I arrange a swap when I change sizes of clothes… A win win situation.
Reading labels is good, you would be surprised what products don’t have a bot of their name in them?! I really love your blog, you get me thinking beyond my old box.

I just shared your article in the Huffington Post on FB. Great article – so sad… I keep looking for clothes made in US and buy most (but not all) of my clothes at resale/thrift shops…

Today I am feeling disgusted by the powdered nacho cheese! I am concerned when the first ingredient spell cheese “chz”. However as a chemist, I recognize most of those names. They are great for the lab but not for going into my mouth!

I have a nest on my porch too! I’ve seen the house wren making it. His mate is always close by supervising the construction. Typically house wrens make lots of nests and then the female will decide which one to use at the last minute.

Winco and Costco are my go-to stores. The only Winco is a long way away, so I only go every other month or so when I’m in the area. Luckily, Costco’s practically around the corner.
I love the bulk bins at Winco. I will not even look at a bulk bin anywhere else, but Winco turns over their stock so fast that I never worry bout freshness. I agree that there are some scary items and some things, like single tea bags, are not a deal at all, unless you only need one or two (but why??).
I witnessed something at a Winco recently that was really scary. A woman (with a child present) grabbed a bag, put about a cup or two of Macadamia nuts in it and then stuffed it into her purse without tagging it. It was all I could do to restrain myself. If she hadn’t been with a child, I might have beaten her with a reusable shopping bag!
Slightly off-topic, but thanks for letting me vent.

In regards to the nacho cheese. I never met a cheese I didn’t like. And. Never met a cheese with zero cholesterol. If it sounds…

Planting a blueberry bush as part of edible landscaping. Planting a couple of seedlings in the raised-bed veggie garden and maybe even drop a couple of seeds in as well. And most of all – praying the rain we were promised tonight materializes! Happy Friday everyone!
