Today I Am . . .

 New sunglasses

Today I am . . .

Getting ready for our east coast trip by running errands, writing to-do lists and trying to achieve a goal of leaving the house in a state of complete cleanliness and order. Nothing’s more depressing than coming home to a stale and messy house. So depressing!

Looking forward to the Non-Consumer Advocate D.C. Meetup on Tuesday, March 25th at the Library of Congress at 10:45 A.M. I’m hoping at least one person shows up. (It’s during the day, which I know is a barrier for those with jobs. Sorry.)

Enjoying my new $2 sunglasses. My last Goodwill pair finally bit the dust, so I spent a few minutes rifling through the haystack of thrifted eyewear until I found an acceptable pair. I did find a really nice pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses, but they turned out to be prescription. (I’ll try to glue the old pair back together, but want a not-sure-to-break during-our-vacation pair.)

Really wanting to include a visit to the Tenement Museum in New York City’s Lower East Side. My husband and I lived in the neighborhood in 1989-1990-ish, and it was still completely ungentrified.  My step-mother grew up there, and was horrified that we would knowingly live in such an awful area. To her, it was a place to escape.

Planning a dinner meal that will use up as many perishables as possible from the fridge.

Taking my son to school and running errands on my way home. Gotta go, bye!

Now your turn. What are you doing today?

I’m…
– Waiting for a few people to show up to buy stuff I had listed on Craigslist. Most of it is stuff I picked up off the curb on trash day and cleaned. One man’s trash is another woman’s car payment!
– Doing some chores around the house. How does one house get so messy in one evening? It’s a mystery.
– Giving some homegrown tomatoes, lemons, and onions away to my friend. My tomato plants are dying of old age and had one last burst of productivity, so we’re swimming in produce.
– Planning on serving leftovers for dinner. I made Dirt Cheap Soup and froze half the batch, but still have enough left for us to eat it for dinner (unless my brother in law eats it as an after work snack!).

Have fun in DC. Light snow expected on Tuesday.
The “mall” is the grassy area stretching from Lincoln Memorial, past Washington Memorial. One block past that, behind the Museum of Natural Sciences is the Old Post Office center. Probably the least expensive place to eat lunch, still not cheap. Also, if you go to top floor, you get a panoramic view of DC., kinda cool.

I am stuck at home with sick mom and hubby, else I’d be there.

I’m
spring cleaning. Thought we were having company for the weekend but they cancelled due to bad weather. So now my house will be clean anyways.
Sold a set of tickets for a music festival – yay! – which will now help pay for my summer vacation.
Doing prep work to paint a room that I can now do over the weekend.
Re-listing some craigslist and e-bay items.
And making a list of all the home repairs I can do next week while my husband is attending a seminar. Blast the music and get it done!

If your meet up wasn’t in the morning, I’d be there 🙁

Maybe those RL sunglasses can be sold online? Lots of folks buy used frames and put their own prescriptions in them.
Today I am… replacing elastic in two pairs of pjs. Cutting up another pair for rags. Doing laundry. Just went to lunch with two friends. Now I plan to sew the rest of the afternoon.
Have a FUN trip!

Today I’m doing laundry and cleaning up after arriving home last night after a two week vacation with DH driving down the coast road to disneyland. My 19 year old daughter was left alone while we were away, and although the house is in pretty good shape, it needs some cleaning, which I am doing while she is at work. Then I will be taking a 25 minute walk downtown to do some banking, because it is a beautiful sunny day, finally! Happy spring everyone!

My mom is downsizing, so we spent a pleasant time together this morning looking at her new apartment (in the same building), deciding what to keep and what to toss, and laughing about old memories.
I helped a friend get her wheelchair bound husband into their van for a trip to the doctor. It makes me wish for old times when doctors made house calls.
I am going through my own stuff to downsize also.
Tonight I am going to a fish fry at a local church with some friends.
Whew! That’s enough.

I am ready to go off to Canberra with a friend to see an exhibition and generally just relax and have fun. Looking forward to driving through the countryside on a beautiful early autumn day.

-Had my hubby take our youngest to preschool and just spend his time before work studying at a coffee shop. I gave him $3 to spend, and he’s usually good about getting a plain (cheapest) coffee and just adding in sugar/milk that is provided for free
-Did a quick stop at Savers where I found 4 Ikea storage bins I’ve been searching for. They were $2.99/piece instead of Ikea’s $12/piece, plus I had a $3 off coupon making all 4 under $10!
-Took our boys to the park for a long play session in our 75 degree weather
-Grabbed dinner at Jason’s Deli (reward for oldest) where the boys shared a kids meal, filled up on free froyo, and I had a gift card that covered 60% of the meal
-Got a treat at Target with giftcard money

I did the discussion tour at the Tenement Museum a few weeks ago and it was outstanding. Some people on that tour had done three or four different tours at the museum earlier that day! Make sure you get tickets ahead of time tho because it does sell out. I do wish we had made time for a second tour that day as well.

I’ll buy tickets ahead of time once I know what my NYC days will be like.

I am relaxing on my couch with a glass of wine. Enjoying the wine out of a thrifted wine glass I picked up at least 20 years ago.
Loving that my house is clean. Worked in it all day—cleaning, organizing. Purging. Feels great.
Feeling a bit proud that I finally darned a sock!!! It wasn’t hard and looks pretty good.
Have a fun trip!

Hooray for clean houses and darned socks. I’m 50% with you. (Whole house never gets to point of clean.)

That tour looks fascinating! Have you read the book “97 Orchard”? It’s about 5 families and centers around their different cultures and food habits. It was interesting.

Enjoy your trip.

-I went for a timed group 5km run in the most beautiful part of my city with ” parkrun”. It was so fun and free as well. -I did 3 loads of laundry and hung them up in the sun to dry. -I told my kids if they can get the electricity bill below a certain amount per quarter they get to keep the difference. They liked this idea.

Today I am trapped on the computer doing schoolwork. It’s sunny and beautiful outside, but I have 3 weeks left in the semester and finals to write. Sigh. Enjoy your trip East!

Speaking from experience — I’m sure the second- and third-shifters of the world are thrilled that your meetup is during the day. Still a bummer for those who have to miss it, of course.

We just treated some friends to dinner and the symphony. The best reason to be frugal is so you can be generous and enjoy some of the really special things in life!
