Enter to Win "Tropical World: A Coloring Book Adventure!"

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Mary and Janie, whose names were randomly chosen to win copies of "Tropical World."

Coloring book giveaway

I'm hardly an early adopter of trends. (I'm still rocking my others-would-consider-it-obsolete iPhone4!) But even I, Katy Wolk-Stanley, the generally clueless had become aware that coloring books for adults had become a thing.

A big thing.

And no, I don't mean, ahem . . . adult theme coloring books, although that would be kind of funny. I mean very elaborate and detailed coloring books that feature not a single Disney Princess nor Marvel comics character. So when Lark Crafts reached out to me asking if I'd like to do a review and giveaway of Millie Marotta's Tropical World: A Coloring Book Adventure, I said yes. (That was after polling Non-Consumer Advocate Facebook group members, who by the hundreds cried "Yes, please! Now!")

Apparently, the coloring book trend is about mindfulness, which is a concept I can totally get behind. That is, if I could get myself to focus on one thing at a time. Then yes, I can could behind that mindfulness thing.

The book itself is absolutely gorgeous, with page after page of mesmerizing flora and fauna. And like all Lark Craft books, the book quality itself is impressive.

To enter to win, just write your name in the comments section below. I will randomly choose two winners on Saturday, September 26th at 9 P.M. PST. One entry per person, please.

Best of luck from the generally mindless Katy Wolk-Stanley!

  2. When I told my mom I was going to get our family adult coloring books for Christmas, she immediately assumed porn coloring books! Like I would buy that for my grandparents. Sheesh!

    Cheyanne! 🙂

  3. Sandra R. I have been planning to give my daughters a coloring book for Christmas to help them destress from university. They love to craft, etc and have always loved to colour. A perfect fit!

I love mindless activities. My 6 year old daughter said to me the other day, "Mom, what's your favorite thing to do? Dishes?"

  5. I'd love this. Adult coloring books are something my daughters AND my husband have asked for for Christmas this year.

  6. My daughter started college in August while going through her desk I just found a box of crayons that we must have bought a while ago. Box of unused crayons would go well with a new coloring book. Valerie

  7. I was recently in Ann Arbor and noticed adult coloring books prominently displayed in an independent bookstore. Yes, please!

  8. I was just talking with the kindergarten teacher at school today about how we use to love to color as kids, and kids don't like to color as much. I may have to sharpen my colored pencils! (the bag of school "leftovers" from my kids map coloring days!)

  9. Mary Greenwood-Drumheller - Thanks for writing this blog! Have found some very helpful and frugal tips including support for this crazy non-consumer life that we choose when so many in society are contrary!

  10. Years ago, when my beloved uncle passed away, all the family gathered for his funeral. We sorted through all the family photos and made an awesome collage of his life story. When we finished that, we were kind of at loose ends. Someone found grandma's stash of heavy white paper and markers . We spread out the supplies on her big kitchen table and spent the afternoon coloring. No tv, no phones, just the adult kids hanging out together. It was wildly therapeutic. I will always remember what a magical experience it was. I know my uncle would have approved. I'm not putting my name, because I hope it will go to someone who could really use a coloring break. Thanks, Katy!

  11. I had an amazing coloring book full of intricate geometric designs as a kid but never colored in it because then I wouldn't be able to color that page again! Now for the opportunity to make up for lost time...

  13. I was in France last month and a country town supermarket had 3 SHELVES of Adult Colouring Books. Not one but 3!!!! Th e trend has really taken off in France and those corn, wheat and dairy farmers must be extremely stressed.

  14. celina boulanger in virginia...

i do enjoy these...although the other kind you mentioned might be interesting,...LOL

  15. I would love to win the "adult" coloring book. It was a favorite activity as a kid and also with my own daughter who is now 20! Thank you.

  16. I wanted to share my Non Consumer Approach to the adult coloring fad.

When I saw the coloring books in the bookstore and went "I want!", I paused and wondered if I had any left at my parent's from childhood. I found a beautiful coloring book of scenes from classical ballet that someone had given me when I was too young to color inside the lines. I dug out my hand me down prismacolor pencils from my school days and have slowly been coloring in a scene. Some pages have a couple of crayon squiggles but still plenty of free coloring space. It would be nice to do abstract designs but I'm enjoying testing out the fad using what I already own.

P.S. I chuckled at the adult theme coloring books!

  17. After breaking out with hives for 2 days, I thought this may help my stress level. Thanks for the chance to win.

  18. Another non-consumer approach to this is to look on Pinterest for free printables. There are a few out there, and I suspect they'll grow with the trend!

I'd love to win this one! Bethany Brown

  19. Isn't it telling that a longtime reader and first time commenter would comment to try and win something? V. frugal indeed!

  20. I loved to color as a child, who would think they want us adults to do it without anyone laughing at us, right? Lovely way to get your mind off the daily world problems!

  21. I also am still rocking' the I Phone 4. I think I was one of the last people to switch from a flip phone and I only did that because Verizon offered the I Phone 4 for 99 cents. It is still like new to me! I'm so out of touch, I didn't even know "adult theme" coloring books existed. 🙂

  22. Becky... @ Becky's Place (since I see I'm not the only Becky after all).

I recently was at a friend's house who hostessed a coloring party. She provided the books and most of the food. Guests were each assigned a food item to bring and to bring whatever you preferred to color with. It was great!
